More (mis)Adventures in the Life of Allison

Today, for the second time in my life, I locked the keys in my car. Along with my purse, containing my phone.

The first time it happened, I was in Ohio for Laura's wedding. I was traveling from the wedding itself to the reception, and stopped for gas. When I got out of the car, I locked it like I always do. But NORMALLY, I carry the keys in my hand. That time, I somehow slipped up. So I had to use the gas station phone to call my mom who had to set me up with a AAA account and then they came and opened it for me so I could continue on to the reception. (I still made it there a half hour before the wedding party.)

This time, I had put my purse and lunch in the car, started it, and closed the door while I scraped the windows when it happened. I spent a while scraping the windows, and after I finished the job, I realized the doors were locked. For a second I thought it would be ok; I could go back to my apartment and use Skype or something to call someone to call AAA for me. But as I got to the door I realized (duh) that my keys were IN THE CAR; including, obviously, the key to the apartment.

At which point I tried knocking on my next-door neighbor's door. No answer. Then I went downstairs and knocked at another neighbor's house. No answer, except for a dog barking at me. Then I tried going to the apartment offices, and lo and behold... CLOSED.

Then I contemplated walking around and knocking on doors until I found someone. Instead, I decided to walk down the street to the doctor's office that is near the entrance to the apartment complex. Walked through the snow to take a shortcut through their parking lot, carrying my ice scraper.

I ended up asking the ladies at the front desk to use the phone, and one of them had to call someone else that worked there to get a AAA number, and then she dialed it for me, and I gave my information. I of course didn't even have the AAA card to give them information from. But that all went smoothly. Then I had to wait.

Luckily it only took about a half hour until the dude showed up, and then he took quite a while opening the car, as his equipment wasn't working properly. But FINALLY, he opened it, I gave him my information, signed a paper, and was on my way.

I called work at this point, as they had called and left a message for me, wondering where I was. So I explained the situation to Laura and that I'd be there by 10am. She understood.

So I lost an hour's pay. But luckily that's all I lost.

Talk about a crazy week. Hopefully now I can put all the madness behind me and have a normal rest of 2010. :)
