I did a whole day as a very-nearly mute barista. It was indeed a good exercise in telegraphing. There's also tons of non-talky stuff to do all day: stocking things, grinding and brewing things, cleaning things, lifting things, making really fancy coffee things, etc.
Also, petting doggies while on break. There's Macchiato the fluffy happy spaniel puppy, Lulu the ever-napping Boxer, Lucy the very soft Bernese Mountain Dog, Kuma the extremely patient Shiba Inu with his human toddler in tow... one time there was a five-month-old Newfoundland puppy named Reagan (it's not his fault he's named that).
Then I came home and had soup, watched Detective Conan*, and fell asleep. I think that's what I'll do today, too. I was going to go play but I'm probably too sick. Boo
*it's not Conan the Barbarian solving mysteries. That would be AMAZING.
