This post deals with how to recognize different types of trees from quite a long way away. To do this we hiked to larch valley which involves a lot of switch-backs and a vertical climb of 550 meters. Eventually the trail opens up into a meadow with larch trees flanking either side of it. The trees display a radiant yellow glow during autumn and attract a lot of people... A LOT OF PEOPLE.
We spent the night in Banff because we didn't want to drive home after such a long hike. I woke up at 6:30 in the morning to see if I could capture Mt. Rundle at sunrise reflected in the Vermillion Lakes. Unfortunately it was overcast and the sunrise was very unspectacular.
