Okay, so if you haven't heard...and even if you have... I am getting sick of writing this in messages/emails to people since I don't have a cell phone so here goes...
First things first:
Yes it is true, I got hit by a bus yesterday, but I am alive, I'm okay, and I sustained relatively minor injuries (I have multiple breaks in my left fibula --little bone in the lower leg).
I still need to see an orthopedic surgeon, but I am pretty sure I'm going to be FINE... though I can't really move and am a total spazz on crutches (then again, did we expect anything less from me?). I am in very little pain, too, and aside from my leg, I don't even have a scratch/scape/bruise on me.
The whole thing is kinda hilarious but I really am thanking God for my life/health because I have no idea how my neck/back/arm/body is not broken and I didn't get run over.
So at like 5:30 yesterday I am about to cross 14th street on the south side of Union Sq park, and I look both ways, nothings coming. As I double check the right side of the street I step out into the street and the X14 (the double crosstown bus) hits me coming from the left side. Me, my bag (with laptop & books) and my glasses go flying and land in the street. (I don't remember this getting hit by the bus/ in-flight part) so I come to consciousness in the street like 1-2 seconds later, my bag flew onto the sidewalk (i think), I see my glasses 3 feet away from me so I jump up and grab them. The accident was supposedly really loud and caused quite a scene so a crowd had formed as I got up and made it to the sidewalk. The bus, didn't even stop (and I later found out he KNEW he had hit me).
So I make it to the sidewalk and thought I was ok so I tried to get up and couldn't walk on my left leg. I refused to call 911 (really dumb of me, but oh well), and some really nice lady helps me into a cab and takes me to the ER. My family met me there later on, and I felt/ still feel miraculously okay other than my left leg. So they x-ray my leg, and see the breakage. Also, my glasses don't even have a scratch on them, my laptop and books are all in perfect condition. The cops come, the MTA detective comes, and I tell them what happens. Apparently this bus driver has a history of complaints against him already, and city buses rarely hit people...so this is probably going to be a big legal deal. I got released from the hospital last night with this enormous knee/leg immobilizer on my leg.
So I'm on Long Island recovering, and will be back in the city on Monday, and I am really bored since I am wayyyyy too hyperactive to be this stationary...I hope this alleviates any concern people might have had upon hearing that I got hit by a bus (I still cannot believe it.... I mean who the heck actually gets hit by a bus?!). So now I have survived a plane accident, cancer AND getting hit by a bus (it even sounds funny!). I think I make up .000000000000000000...1% of the population now.
I mean, the fact that I am alive allows me to crack up laughiing when saying to people "Sorry I couldn't come to class/meet up with you/call you back... I got hit by a bus."
