Coffee

Laura forwarded me a diet plan for IBS. Upon further reading, it mentioned sensitivity to wheat. The celiac test hasn't come back yet, but I fasted for 14 hours (how on Earth do people fast for days, I was starving!), like hitting the Reset Button in my gut. I slowly reintroduced foods. I ate a wheat pita and sure enough I bloated up like I swallowed a damn balloon!

All this time, the sicker I got, the more bland foods (like bread and cereal) I ate and the sicker I got. So I'm a strict vegetarian who can't eat wheat. I'll deal.

And chocolate upsets my stomach too. I'll admit it. No more chocolate. Good bye my dear friend...

I've been wheat free for 3 days and I CAN'T BELIEVE how much better I feel. I don't even feel like the same person. I feel like I've been coasting in a robotic trance since November and I've finally been resurrected- my mood, energy level, outlook on life, everything. There's something to be said for not being in constant pain.

Most of the literature about IBS, Acid Reflux and gluten sensitivity (let's call it my Intestinal Triforce) says that coffee is a NO. But those are just guidelines right?

Is a life without coffee worth living? It's not just the caffeine, although that's a major plus.. it's the flavor, the first bittersweet bit on your tongue, the warmth in your hands as you hold your special mug, coffee out of glass- that's good too, crazy road trips where you stop in unknown towns searching for local coffee shops, the socializing over coffee, the artwork on the walls in independent coffee shops, the people you meet in coffee shops, every morning in Costa Rica with my Café Oro- sitting in the courtyard sun before the afternoon storm... everything. I really fucking like coffee.

Today I had a double soy latte and...........NO PROBLEM!!! THANK YOU GOD.
THAANNNNNNNNNNK YOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUU!!!! And thank you Laura!
