My mom and I had a blast!
Thursday we went to Tortuguero, an area of the Carbibean coast that can only be reached by boat. I love boat rides! That night we hired a guide to take us onto the beach. There was no moon and the stars were gorgeous. The sand sparkled with plankton with every step. The rainforest hummed from our left side, the ocean roared at our right...it was amazing. The guide said it was the end of the nesting season for the Green Turtle, so our chances of spotting one were less than 10%. We walked two miles one way and then walked back, still no turtles. Then finally when we were about to give up, the guide said in his thick Caribbean accent, "I see the turtle and she be digging the hole to lay her eggs." It was very suspenseful. We watched a GIANT TURTLE lay eggs. It was like being in the Discovery Channel.
Friday morning we took a boat through the canals and saw tons of wildlife! Monkeys!
Saturday we went to Volcan Arenal. It was too cloudy to see the lava, but we spent all day in natural hot springs. And as usual, the guacamole was delicious.
Now I am in MN, and I am cold. And my English sucks.
A beetle whose name I forgot
A heron
Iguana
Caiman and river turtles who were begging for bread
A cool lizard related to the Jesus Christ lizard
