I've noticed a lot of hate going on in scans_daily concerning Spider-Man: Brand New Day. To be honest, yes, BND does piss me off to no end, but there just seems to be a lot of hatred from both ends of the extreme. I'm just going to throw my two cents in.

To me, Peter Parker is an underdog, not a "lovable loser" as Quesada and company like to make him out to be. Most times he does the right thing, but thanks to blowhards like J. Jonah Jameson, he tends to get the short end of the stick. But, despite everything that has happened to him, he has gained respect in the hero communities, and has garnered a support system in Mary Jane and Aunt May. To me, he's a "geek-boy made good."

Now, it seems that comic creators seem so in love with the silver age (or whenever they read comics when they were kids) that they want so desperately to go into that playground. The problem with that, I think, is that they forget that back then, the writers and artists didn't know what the hell they were doing. They had no idea that they were going to meet with the success that they had. Instead of taking that ball and running with it, the modern-day creators are trying (way too hard, in my opinion) to "recapture the magic," strike iron that has cooled long ago.

I just give myself a sigh, and try to hang on to the notion that, like the clone saga, or the Age of Apocolypse, or any bucking that tries to establish a status quo, this too, shall pass. I'll just stick to my back-issues, and PAD's run on X-Factor and She-Hulk, and try to hunker down this storm.

Thanks for your attention.
