lethalprotector posted his review of Spidey 3...lucky bastard saw an advance screening. I'd like to make clear that I already had this impression of the movie almost since the get go. This doesn't mean I won't see it...
...I was just never expecting it to be much more than visually stunning.

You know what the problem with Batman & Robin was? They put too damned many villains into a single movie, along with too many heroes. We're talking a grand total of six and they were just tripping all over each other! The problem with the Spawn film was that, among other things, they took the events of the first 100 issues and tried to compact it into less than a couple hours. It's a common flaw in a lot of films that originated from comic books.
You can get away with more in a comic for a number of reasons. You can see what the characters are thinking and you've got all those handy little narration boxes all over the place. Even then, they often tend to stretch their more detailed stories over several issues and not just one; excepting in the case of graphic novels. Comic characters are supposed to be larger than life so it's not surprisingly thay directors and producers want to incorporate as much of that as possible into a film...
...but there's still such a thing as too much of a good thing...
...excepting with chocolate...
...and sex.
When Spidey 3 first popped up in trailers we knew that the Sandman was gonna be in it. Hell, shortly after Spidey 2 came down from the big screen there were many speculating on a 3rd film and he was one of the prime contenders. Then again, so was the Black Cat but that clearly's not gonna happen. Harry donning the goblin gear was also a sure thing but I'm just hoping he doesn't start using the monniker of Hobgoblin.
That would be so wrong!
Then we're informed that alien symbiote will be in the movie and that it will lead into Venom making an appearance into Spidey 4. Then that's blown out of the water with the revelation that Venom will actually be in this movie.
Sounds great, right?
It's doomed to be a flop.
All of the characters are going to be tripping over each other like crazy. They might be able to pull it off if it were a 3 to 4 hour film but what're the odds of that happening? They're trying to cram too many elements into your standard 1½ to 2 hour film.
I'd've been less worried if they'd stuck with the original theory and just had Venom make a snarling leap at the screen before the end credits. Not saying I won't enjoy it but they are seriously ovederoing it.
If Galactus pops up in the upcoming Fantastic Four film I'm going to be of the same mind with that one as this.
