The Ambiguous Adaptation

I saw A Series of Unfortunate Events yesterday. Don't quite know what to make of it, really. Visually, it was very good, but in terms of story I was expecting it to resemble the books a bit more than it actually did. I really need to learn to separate books I've enjoyed from the movies made of them. I think I'd enjoy the movies a lot more if I could do that. :) Jim Carrey, though I love him, was a bit much, and not really how I imagined Count Olaf. I thought about that, and realized that I didn't know how I imagined Count Olaf except that that wasn't it. The kids were pretty good, and pretty ... pretty. They really took that thing about the Baudelaires being attractive children to heart. :) Some people have been saying that they weren't sure about Liam Aiken as Klaus, and I'm going to have to agree that Emily Browning was the better of the two main kids, although I didn't think Liam was bad or anything. Anywho, I liked the part with Uncle Monty the best. Billy Connolly was excellent! I think that section, the beginning (which it took me way too long to catch on to), and the end credits were my favourite things.

I've been a bit disappointed by every movie I've seen lately except Finding Neverland. I don't know why that is, but it's bloody irritating. My biggest ASOUE disappointment was unrelated to the movie, though: I had heard that the trailer for Willy Wonka was playing with it, but sadly, it wasn't.

PS: I did my troubles status update last night! Any fellow staffers wanna comment and tell me if I did a decent job of it?

lemony snicket, movies, tfl
