OMG, Spider. This is a masterpiece. I'm a beer barbarian by upbringing (in Nebraska, where they pour tomato juice into Bud and then salt it), but I've been trained by a connoisseur (my SO, who makes beer pilgrimages to Belgium and Germany from his home in England). He is a good enough teacher that I spotted the glass problem right away. I loved this and am going to copy it for him.

I'm glad your SO has been giving you a proper education. Please tell him I'm sorry that I didn't go into detail regarding English noble hops, or the precise flavors of malt. I'm thinking lots of caramel, with some roasted and pale ale in there as well. I didn't want to stretch this post out with too much minutiae.
