Dewey Square Raid

Dec 10, 2011 05:57

The raid started at 5 a.m. I've been following all night on http://www.livestream.com/occupyboston and the twitter feed at #occupyboston.

It's hard to tell how many arrests occurred because the police kettled all the media far from the eviction. But the estimate is at least 40, including members of the media team, all the medics, and all the legal observers.

There was a lot of dodgy shit going on, including how a couple of people who had been major sources of trouble in the camp were just allowed just to stroll out with their belongings intact. (Including the infamous Phil, for anyone who knows who he is.) In other words, when we said there were undercovers and provocateurs in camp, we weren't being paranoid.

There was an LRAD on site, but it wasn't used. The police have blocked and barricaded the square and the crowd around South Station. Good morning, commuters! It's another wonderful day in Police State USA!

I'm not doing very well at doing a wrap-up for y'all; things are just happening too quickly, and I've been up all night. The best thing to do is check out the archived video on livestream or ustream, and the #occupyboston hashtag and the @caulkthewagon feed at twitter for the running updates. My @spiderine feed mostly has retweets.

I should have been there. I wish I'd been there. But already on the livestream you can hear mic checks starting up in front of South Station. In other words, the occupation site may have been cleared, but the Occupy Boston movement is still going strong!

There will be a General Assembly on Boston Common at 7 p.m. tonight (Saturday). Bella ciao!
