Yesterday afternoon the partners at my firm announced the firm is being acquired by Big Arse Firm, LLP ("BAF"). This is not a surprise, as the negotiations have been going on for months and yesterday there were visitors from BAF and lots of cameraderie and closed-door conferences and pastries. (Can't forget the pastries.) According to what my firm's partners announced, every one of us down to the records department intern is welcome to come along.
I have decided to be optimistic about this. For one thing, our new digs will be in Rockefeller Plaza, which is one of my favorite areas of the city to work in. It's hell during the month of December what with the tourists and that great bloody tree, but it's centrally located and a very short commute for me. For another thing, I've checked out BAF's web site and Vault reports, and it seems like a place where I could work. They have their head on straight regarding minimum billable hours and pro bono work and such, and while I have questions about their "commitment to diversity" (very vague, and no mention of LGBT community), in their "equal opportunity employer" blurb they do mention a non-discrimination policy regarding sexual orientation.
They have 10 offices in the USA and Europe. And in general, they gotta run things better than the hoopleheads I work for now, otherwise they wouldn't be Big Arse Firm, LLP.
In other news, I have received my first response to my "Manuscript Makeovers" ad and am going to answer it this evening. :)
