They Say It's Your Birthday

Mar 06, 2007 09:42

Well it's my mom's birthday too, yeah!  So happy 30th Plus Birthday Mommy (because obvisouly everyone knows she reads her "nutty son"'s blog)!  Just think, in a few years, you'll get to say happy 30th anniversary of your 30th Birthday, and you'll get to wear diapers.

Well this past weekend wasn't really much other then two things.  First thing was Shabbat Number Three with the good folks from BR-13.  Once again it was host in my office confrence room, which is a nice place to have it, because it's a large table, so we all had room to eat and enjoy.  I made Zucchini and Noodle kugels again, and they went over even better then they did the last time, partially because I tweaked the recipes, which is something you can only do with practice.  Needless to say, the Kugels were better then my grandma ever made (sorry grandma, please don't enact any from-the-grave vengence).  I have decided that I now really like dinner parties (although who really couldn't when you have good food, good friends, and good wine), and I hope to one day have a great home in which to host some truely spectacular ones.

Then the next morning I met up with Brad and Brooke at 34th Street to go see "Reno 911: Miami."  Nothing great if you are going to see a high-brow, intellectually stimulating comedy, but if you are a fan of "Reno 911" the tv show, you don't expect anything like that from the movie.  What you do expect is something that will have you yucking like a dope at crotch shots, prat-falls, accidental explosions, and just pure old making fun of southerners.  It was nothing more then watching an hour and a half of the TV show, which I have done on more then one occation, so I was very satisfied.  Plus the cameos are great, much like in the TV show, long enough to make you go "holy crap it's 'so and so'" and short enough to keep 'so and so' from being too distracting by the fact that they are there.  If you are a fan of the show, go see it, and if you are not a fan of the show, wait for it to be on DVD and Netflix it or just wait for it to be on TV, because it's definately funny enough for at least one viewing, but definately funnier if you know the show.  Also, I was not aware of this, but apparently they still do matinee prices in the city.  I was so shocked to find out I was only spending SIX DOLLARS on a movie.  I can't remember the last time I spent six dollars on a movie without going to some art-house theater where I lost my shoes to an overly sticky floor.  So who want's to go see some "early" morning movies with me and save five dollars?

The rest of the weekend was pretty much wasted time of me sitting around and doing little more then chores and television watching.  If you are wondering what happened with C-M University, it can be boiled down to two things.  The first thing, writers block.  I was stuck on an idea, and couldn't pencil it.  Finally, I was helped with an idea by Aaron (from Birthright) and as soon as I tried to start penciling it at work, I got insanely busy, which was the second problem.  I like to do my penciling during my down time at work, makes the day go by faster when it seems to be crawling.  However, I was not afforded such time before Friday, and then this weekend I was just not into it at all, and yesterday at work was hellish, keeping me from doing anything yesterday, and then 24 kept me from rushing it last night.  But I have been storyboarding it in my head, so hopefully your week of waiting will pay off.  I know that this new story line is my most popular yet (possibly because it's based on obvious real people who are all looking to see themselves rendered through my cartoonish eyes.

Well I just got an email back from SVA, after emailing them yesterday about taking courses in a pursuit of a portfolio and art direction career.  Apparently, they recomend at least 1-2 YEARS of schooling before I can actually complete a portfolio.  Question is, do I want to make such a commitment?  Do I want to risk working at my current job for that period of time while I earn enough courses to obtain a degree?  Do I have the financial abilities to take out loans for such an amount of time, and then pay them off when school is actually over?  Will doing this actually help me get a better job?  Any outside advice would be much appreciated, because I am feeling very conflicted now about the entire thing.

Also, still no answer on the song stuck in head situation.  Stupid song.  Please call me so I can sing the song into the phone for you and you can figure it out.

OK, back to work, maybe?
