Movies of 2k6!

Holy crap, 2k7 already???

Well, okay--I promised myself that I'd do this, so behind the cut you'll find some brief reviews (rated in cookies
instead of stars!) of films that I have seen over the past year. I'm sure I've left some out, but oh well...they can't have been that good if I've forgotten about them! ^.^

!KEY!

= An excellent movie! You won't be left disappointed - and you can trust me on that...

= A good movie overall. No hesitations if you ever get a chance to watch it.

= I guess it's okay. But don't expect anything more.

= Step away! Bad movie alert!

= Avoid this like that moldy sandwich that spent a year in the back of the fridge before finally coming out of hiding.

Movies:

The Producers ~ A pretty good and entertaining movie, the three main cast members saved it from disaster. Will Ferrell is just plain annoying though, like always...
My rating:

Memoirs of a Geisha ~ This movie has been beautifully made, very moving, and it wakes you up to the Japanese culture if you haven't already. It had me hooked from the beginning right to the end.
My rating :

V for Vendetta ~ The mask creeps me out. But still an excellent thriller--if you get a chance, go see it.
My rating:

Brokeback Mountain ~ I don't know why. I honestly don't. I guess I followed along with the excellent reviews and went to see it expecting something along the lines of a masterpiece. I suppose it is, really. A very touching movie from start to end; but I'm just not into smut--this movie just isn't for me...
My rating:

X-Men 3: The Last Stand ~ Not as good as the previous two, but still brilliant. XM fans shouldn't be left disappointed... (Noooooo! Xavier!!)
My rating:

Ice Age 2: The Meltdown ~ No way near as good as the first, but still fun for the whole family to watch. However, the two possums; Crash and Eddie are annoying to the point of a breakdown, who although the kids may find entertaining, adults like you and me will just want to wring their tiny necks out like a sponge (hopefully they won't return if there's a third sequel, but you never know... *ler sigh*)
My rating:

Poseidon ~ I was worried about a remake of The Poseidon Adventure, but I must say, this movie did not make me feel disappointed one bit! Good action/adventure movie but not suitable for young kids. (Gaaahh! Dead People!)
My rating:

Mission: Impossible III ~ What a disappointment! They should never have made a second sequel, let alone a third!! Too much wobbly camera movement, confusing plot and a very fast story that even got an intelligent cyborg like myself all in a twist.
My rating:

The Da Vinci Code ~ Not hugely true to the book meaning some parts may confuse the hell out of anybody who hasn't read it, on the other hand; still one of the best films of the year. It has Tom Hanks in it-- what is there not to like about that???
My rating:

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest ~ ZOMG best movie of the YEAR!! No explanation needed. (Although I still like the first one more...)
My rating:

Garfield 2 ~  Not as good as the first, but still a whole bunch of fun, even if it does rely on a lot of slapstick humour. It's nice to see how everyone's favourite fat American cat survives in a completely different and whole new environment...London!
My rating:

Cars ~ Wheee! What a fun and interesting Pixar movie this is! Interesting storyline with some of the most unusual characters--cars! Good for the kids with some in-jokes to keep the adults entertained at the same time.
My rating:

Snakes on a Plane ~ The title basically describes the whole movie in four words. I don't even know why I saw this movie, but I guess I read the reviews and expected a "so bad that it's good" movie. But that's untrue. This movie is simply bad. Wait--that's not right... motherf*cking bad. Yeah.
My rating:

Hoodwinked ~ A fun and modernized retelling of the classic story "Little Red Riding Hood". Definately the best CGI film of the year.
My rating:

Saw III ~ Urgh. Too much violence, horror and gore even for me. See the original; tread lightly with the sequel, but just stay far far away from this one.
My rating:

Casino Royale ~ Daniel Craig isn't the best Bond, but he's still a fantastic actor (and quite nice to look at too!), and I enjoyed the movie anyway. But I still think that Pierce could have carried on for another couple of movies. Look at Rodger Moore (my favourite Bond) and Sean Connery for example, how old were they before given the boot???
My rating:

The Holiday ~ Entertaining Christmas movie for a couple to see on a Friday night during the holiday season. Good supporting cast, but indeed a very unusual movie. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, though. My claim to fame: Kate Winslet was born in my home town! YaY!
My rating:

Black Christmas ~ Christmas-themed horror/slasher movie involving a lot of horrible incidents with eyeballs. Not for the faint-hearted. I and
purplewine were practically cowering in fear at the back row of the cinema, but it was still good fun.
My rating:

Eragon ~ A good fantasy movie even if the plot was simple and boring at some points. However, one must remember that the book this movie was based upon was written by a fifteen-year old; pretty damn impressive if I may say so myself. Jeremy Irons certainly kept me in the cinema...and then he died! *sob*
My rating:

Night at the Museum ~ My friend dragged me along to see this, but it wasn't bad after all. Ben Stiller is annoying in practically all his movies, but I still enjoyed this movie from beginning to end--a good movie to conclude 2k6!
My rating:

Well, that's it for now!

Overall, I think that 2006 was a pretty good movie year, but nothing compared to the successes of 2005, which include King Kong, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Corpse Bride, and let's not forget Wallace and Gromit in the Curse of the Were-Rabbit! I'm looking forward to 2007 movie-wise, with the fifth installment of the Harry Potter series, Shrek 3 and of course The Simpsons Movie (God hope they don't blow it after 18 seasons of a very successful animated TV show!).

Well, until next time, bye-bye and have a good weekend!!

Spider Gremlin

.:Edit:. Oh my, I forgot Borat! (I saw an icon of him on my flist which was the thing that reminded me...) Well, I think that it's a hilarious movie and I give it the full five stars cookies. So, there ya go!
