CHARACTER NAME: Gerald “Gerry” Drew | Spider-Man
FANDOM: Marvel MC2
CHRONOLOGY: What Issue/Episode/Major Event are they coming into the RP from?
CLASS: Hero
SUPERHERO NAME: Spider-Man
ALTER EGO: Gerry Drew - Student

BACKGROUND:
MC2 is an alternate Marvel universe’s future. The world is essentially the same as it is in the 616 Universe (with the exceptions of certain events), but the heroes you all know and love, such as Spider-Man, Spider-Woman, etc. have all either passed on or retired from their lives as costumed vigilantes and Avengers in favor of a more normal, everyday life. However, that does not mean that there aren’t threats. Manhattan is still a hotbed of superhuman activity, and of course crime, leaving a new generation of heroes to fill in the spaces left by the last generation of heroes (usually their parents or relatives).

Gerald “Gerry” Drew is the son of Jessica Drew, the Spider-Woman that fought alongside the Avengers for years and is still pimped out pretty hard by Bendis, and an unknown father. Because of Jessica’s that were given to her by exposure to radiation and toxins when she was ill long ago, Gerry was exposed to a similar radiation that was still present in her womb, and it severely weakened him. This radiation caused Gerry to be born with a rare, undiagnosed blood disease. While the specific symptoms of this disease are unknown, it’s known that Gerry has to be very careful to not be cut or leave any wounds unattended for too long because he is much more susceptible to infection, and when he’s injured he has to be taken out of the fight almost immediately. Even small cuts can leave him weakened for an extended period of time. It’s also known that his disease is terminal, and as there is no cure for it yet, his time is limited.

Because of his illness, his father blamed Jessica and left them, after which Gerry took his mother’s last name. Even though his dad was obviously a dick, Jessica also blamed herself for her son’s illness, since she knew that there was no other source of radiation that he could have been exposed to.

In an attempt to give her son the healthy, normal life that he deserved, Jessica performed the same treatment on Gerry as the one that had cured her (and had also given her superhuman abilities). While Gerry was undergoing the treatment, his mother would read stories about her adventures with the Avengers, and he became particularly fond of hearing about the exploits of the original Spider-Man, adopting him as a role model and learning everything he could about the web-slinger.

Unfortunately for Gerry, the treatment didn’t work and his illness was still left uncured. However, ironically, like his mother, the treatment gave him superpowers, but instead of the powers unique to Spider-Woman, he developed powers that mirrored his favorite hero ever… Spider-Man of course!

With his new powers, and his knowledge that his time was going to be cut short, Gerry decided to join the superhero game, since that’s what all the cool kids do these days, and after training under his mother, he adopted the name “Spider-Man”, which he had some right to, and a variation of the original Spidey’s costume, which was really just his fanboy tendencies becoming all too apparent, but hey it worked with his abilities.

Gerry enjoyed every aspect of being a hero and, at heart, was a good kid, but he also was interested in the publicity, wanting to make a name for himself, even going so far as to introduce himself and “Spider-Man’s” return in person to James Jonah Jameson and Peter Parker, and getting irritated with Spider-Girl whenever she got in his way and subsequently made him look bad.

He became focused on putting an end to a gang war that had erupted in Manhattan, and intended to take down one of the crime lords, Canis. However, Gerry’s general inexperience caused problems not only for him, but for Spider-Girl who had to watch out for him, and eventually he was responsible for the death of the villain Crazy Eight. Unlike Spider-Girl, who was general remorseful and felt responsible for the death of one of her foes, Gerry once again went after Canis, this time alone, and got the crap beaten out of him until he was rescued by Spider-Girl once again.

After the death of Crazy Eight, his brother, Funny Face, and his mother, Angel Face, went on a crime spree that caused all of the new superheroes to be forced to join forces, while Spider-Man joined up with Darkdevil to meet the same goal. Together, the two of them fought against the hitman, Mr. Nobody until the original Spider-Man, Peter Parker, donned his old webs once again to save the day!

Once the conflict was over, Peter, as Spider-Man, talked to Gerry at the request of his mother and convinced him to temporarily leave the superhero game and go to the Fantastic Five, who he believed would be able to help find a cure for Gerry’s condition. Gerry, because it was his idol asking him to do this, agrees to go into retirement, but vows that it won’t be the last time that they hear from him.

PERSONALITY:

Gerry Drew is, more or less, your typical teenager. He is stubborn and a bit rebellious, but ultimately craves approval. He thinks that he already fully understands the world and that he doesn’t need to take advice from others. He a total dork and a good kid at heart in one sense, but can also be very angry, lashing out at others and easily annoyed, which, beyond just being your average teenager, is exacerbated by his illness. He is very much a kid still in transition.

He’s totally a fanboy. Spider-Man is his mentor and idol, he knows everything publically known about the hero, and even knows Peter Parker through following his career as Spider-Man’s photographer (little did he know). He could have been Spider-Man without taking on the Spider-Man costume, but he worships the guy so much that he even copied his costume. He even becomes giddy and excited when he meets the real Spider-Man for the first time… Like a Trekkie meeting William Shatner. He also acts totally jazzed about being a hero, wanting the ful experience, from press coverage to teaming up with other heroes.

Most of Gerry’s personality traits can be traced back to his illness. Because of his heritage and the stories that his mom told him, he is very determined to be a hero, to be as great as him mom and Spider-Man were. To this goal, he has worked very hard, despite his health concerns, and has trained enough to become an adept fighter and skilled with his abilities. He’s determined, despite the fact that he has a terminal illness, and he makes the most of every day that he can.

However, he is still very inexperienced, and it shows especially when he is fighting. He’s cocky and makes rookie mistakes that often put him and whoever he is working with in dangerous situations. While he has the skills to be an effective hero, he is reckless and doesn’t follow other people’s orders very well.

Along with his recklessness, he also doesn’t have the proper mentality to be a hero. His heart is in the right place, but he is preoccupied with making headlines and being recognized and popular. While the attitude itself is not a positive one, it’s also an effect of his illness. He knows that his time is limited, so while others tell him to be patient and think things through, from his perspective, he doesn’t have the time to sit around and wait, so he wants to do as much as he can and make as much as big of a splash as he can before the inevitable happens.

As a teenager, he has a rebellious and sometimes angry attitude. After the death of Crazy Eight, which was more or less his fault, he reacted with anger, pushing the blame on his enemy, Canis, instead of the more somber and guilt-ridden feelings that Spider-Girl had over her responsibility for the death. He has a hard time accepting criticism and advice from other people, automatically assuming that they just want to make him look bad and show him up. Despite this, he obviously wants to work with other heroes, team-ups being a trademark of superheroes, especially Spider-Man, however, he wants it to be on his own terms, and most people find him annoying and hard to work with due to his recklessness and inability to take criticism. He doesn’t have the experience necessary to work well in a team.

His heart is in the right place though. He doesn’t just want to be a hero for the glory and the action, but also because he does genuinely want to help people. He is a firm believer in the ideals that most heroes hold, such as protecting the innocent and defending justice. He hasn’t really experienced the “With great power comes great responsibility” lecture yet, and he doesn’t exactly follow that ideal yet, due to his general inexperience, but he has the potential to be a good hero, with the right people guiding him.

POWER:
- Enhanced physical abilities - Like the original Spider-Man, he has proportionate spider strength, enhanced agility and coordination, as well as significantly quicker reflexes.

- Wallcrawling - Like all spider-themed heroes, he can scale walls and other surfaces without the aid of any special tools or tricks.

- Organic webbing - Gerry, unlike Spider-Man or Spider-Girl, can produce organic webs from his wrists, and doesn’t need to produce his own web fluid in a lab.

COMMUNITY POST (FIRST PERSON) SAMPLE:

[The video feed turns on but doesn’t show the person behind it. Instead, the recording is showing the city skyline, as if someone is flying between the skyscrapers. However, the movement isn’t smooth enough to suggest flight, and has enough of a pattern to suggest that it’s not because of the flapping of wings. The movement is fluid, with low dips before moving back up higher, then falling again. This person is swinging through the City.]

You know, I really like that computer! It’s about time I get the recognition that I deserve, and I even got these cool dog tags and communicator!

Man, it’s like I just joined the Avengers or something, just like the real deal. I didn’t even know that there was something like this in place, which makes sense, since I’m still pretty new to the game. Really though, it’s about time you contacted me.

So, what’s the situation? I already caught a couple of muggers, and from what I can tell from some of the posts on this thing, there are some serious problems around the City.

You don’t have to worry about it though.

[He lands on the side of one of the skyscrapers, and while he still doesn’t make any attempt to show that his face to the camera, there is a clear reflection on from the building’s window, and the trademark Spider-Man costume can be seen, but it’s black and red instead of the traditional red and blue.]

Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is here!

LOGS POST (THIRD PERSON) SAMPLE:

This was awesome! As he swung through the City, he felt more alive than he ever had before. He always felt a rush when he put on his webs and swung through Manhattan, but this was different. His mother wasn’t around, and there were people here that he’d only heard about in stories and old news articles. It was like his biggest fantasy had come true. He could swing with the old school Avengers and fight baddies just like the original Spider-Man would have done.

For the first time, it was as if he was really a respected hero in the community, and not just another person competing for the right to the original Spider-Man’s legacy. Spider-Girl had always gotten in his way and made things harder for him to get the press and recognition that he deserved. Seriously, how was he supposed to get his name out there and an archenemy if she always kept showing up and making him look bad?

This City, while it obviously wasn’t Manhattan, had been probably the best thing that he could have ever asked for, not only had the computer acknowledged him as a hero, it had even given him tools to help him save the day more effectively, maybe even meet people to work with too. There was a lingering worry in the back of his mind, since he definitely didn’t have anybody to turn to now if something went wrong, or if he really needed help, but for the most part he was just way too excited about his new environment.

If he only had a short while longer to live, then this was definitely how he wanted to do it.

FINAL NOTES ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER:
-I’ll be using a PB for some of his icons, if that’s okay. He only has one out of costume appearance in canon, which obviously isn’t really enough for a full icon set. If this is a problem, let me know and I’ll work around it.

-Gerry has a terminal illness, which I can understand might make some people uncomfortable. No matter how long he stays in the City, I will never have him die because of the illness and will try to keep its involvement in his development to a minimum. The most that it would ever harm him is it might leave him severely sick/weakened if he’s ever injured. No death from the illness specifically though, since I don’t want to upset anybody.
