Whilst chatting with whooluff today I was reminded of a wee incident when I was studying at Liverpool University. I was sat in one of our very first French classes and the topic was regional accents and dialects. The tutor found out I was from Newcastle and chose to make his point by getting me to say a word which is totally normal to me, so much so I couldn't work out what he was trying to get me to say at first, but apparently alien to almost every other part of the UK.

What is the verb for when you go in the sea barefoot? It begins with 'P' and no, it's not paddle.

PLODGE!

Hehehe. :D

Anyway, I love regional accent/language history stuff and it's cool to find out that words I/others use as normal are alien elsewhere.
