So I´m in Guatemala for a month studying Spanish.  My trip here was interesting, my flight got delayed in Phoenix so I missed my connection to Guatemala.  I had a few extra flights before I got to Guatemala, not too surprisingly my luggage didn't make it. Thankfully I had some necessities in my backpack and I had exchanged money on one of my layovers.  I arrived on Sunday and everything was closed but I found a cab.  I didn't understand how much the cab was but I looked it up in a book.  It took me to the bus station where I met April and we caught a bus to Xela which is 4 hours from Guatemala City.  At some point there was no road paved road, it was a litle bumpy.  My family is very nice but very American which I was not expecting.  I was prepared to eat beans rice and tortillas for weeks but instead eat corn flakes, hot dogs and pizza.  Mostly I find it amusing.  My suitcase finally arrived three days later.

We figured out the way to make friends is to sit on a courner and cut open a pinaple.  There was one guy who we gave pinaple to who kept saying that we had the most beautiful eyes. Another old man stared at us until we gave him some.  It was fun.

This weekend we went to the beach.  We went swimming in the Pacific and I got traped in a riptide.  It was in an area where it was so deep I couldn´t stand.  My friends kept motioning for me to come but I couldn´t get out.  They were really worried but I´m a pretty good swimmer so I thought I could swim or float for as long as I needed to.  A girl who used to be a lifeguard came in after me.  She told me when to swim and when to catch a wave and we got out of it.  She kept telling me I was hella strong.  It reminded me that I am strong sometimes I just need someone to hold my hand and cheer me on.
