Zettai Meikyuu Grimm ~ Director's Cut

I gotta admit after playing the PSP version of Zettai Meikyuu Grimm I was really looking forward to the Director's Cut. I mean, it was pretty cute to begin with. More can only be a good thing, yes?

Yes. More is definitely a good thing.

Visuals:

Oh God, the cute, it burns!

So. Freakin. Cute. From the character designs to the CGs, everything about this was cute. And, considering that most of Henrietta's summons are adorable, even the action scenes are cute.

And yet it still manages to have that touch of darkness that makes the classic Grimm fairy tales what they are:

It's still Grimm after all. Classic, dark, and just a tad twisted. Right down to the good ol' Cinderella 'blood upon the shoe' bit.

I am a pleased fangirl.

Story:

Henrietta is living peacefully in a small village with her three 'brothers' - Jacob, wilhelm, and Ludwig Grimm - when, one night, she hears a voice calling her into the forest. Following it, she finds herself facing Muma, an incubus, who demands she give him her power. And, as Ludwig comes to help her in the ensuing trouble, the demon quickly casts a curse on them when sends the pair asleep for 5 years. When they wake up, the village is destroyed and their brothers are gone. Thus, they set off to find their lost family, in a journey that goes through many of the classic Grimm fairy tales along the way.

It's cute. Grimm fairy tale allusions? It's uber cute. And all of the bits that made the game good on PSP are there with a nice portion of extras for people who had already played the game.

In particular, I really liked the new Grimm harem route... for obvious reasons.

Bishies in suits? Mmm, yes. Very nice indeed.

Plus, the Harem route was very much a nice 'everyone lives happily ever after' three way ending. And, after going through certain characters' depressing routes. And dealing with other certain characters who seem determined to dramatically jump into the line of fire at the last minute and sacrifice themselves. Dammit Wilhelm A happily ever after was a lovely change of pace.

I was also tickled to see that they 'fixed' the Muma end so it didn't end on the same bittersweet note that the PSP version did.

And there was even a bonus Bordin End! Oh heck yeah! The evil was delicious.

I was faintly surprised that Rapunzel, Hamelin, and Akazukin still had the cop out demon lord ends though. More CGs is nice. But more scenes would have been even nicer.

The only other thing that I noticed someone mention as I was hunting for walkthroughs that I totally agree with is that they could have added some sexytimes with Muma as the Earl of Dreams...

See? Earl of Dreams. Sexy awesome + glasses. *cough* Yes please.

Audio:

The audio is probably my only real complaint for the game. Because, while for the most part the BGM was the same, someone had the idea to use the character songs for BGM for moments of character specific importance.

Now, this is a rather cool idea on paper. I love the character songs. They're all very fun and cute to listen to. But, it just doesn't work very well during game play. Having the character singing in the background is extremely distracting, especially when you're trying to listen to understand what's going on. And, while there was the option to muffle the music while characters are talking, it was still rather bothersome at time

In a Nutshell:

Cute. Cute. Cute.

Just the sorta thing for fangirls with a weakness for storybook allusions. The game is adorable and funny and totally worth playing if you get the opportunity to do so. The characters are just so much fun. The chapter where they go to Sleeping Beauty's Castle is absolutely hilarious. I also love that they abuse the Frog Prince's 'kiss' effect:

And *poof* Insta-bishie! They even change his voice which just makes me giggle more.

Rapunzel being a hikikomori otaku and Hamelin's money grubbing ways made me giggle as well.

I'd say, overally, my top favorite Routes from the game would be Wilhelm (normal and harem), the Frog Prince, Akazukin, Muma, and Jacob (even though Jacob's normal route was horribly depressing).

Still. It was cute. And so, in parting, I'll slap up some cuteness for you all to fangirl over.

Our intrepid explorers.

Bremen Town Musicians... and Hamelin getting pissed at their lack of musical skill.

Ears!! XDD Nuff said.

Henrietta getting lost when she was little and Jacob finding her.

Little Ludwig

Bishie Ludwig

Rapunzel converting Henrietta to gamer otakudom

Frog Prince... with Henrietta as a frog. XDD

Sleeping Beauty and the Prince of Thorns

More Prince of Thorns

Muma and Henrietta... he looks so adorably grumpy~ ♥

Wilhelm! He tries to do a fake voice to throw Henrietta off to the fact that it's him under the robe. It doesn't work. XD

More Wilhelm!

Mmm... Wilhelm looking wet and smexy for the camera. (I did mention that Wilhelm was my one of my favs, right? XDD)

Tada! Complete!
