Alice was no stranger to sleepless nights. Her dreams in Wonderland had been filled with nightmares, both benign and otherwise. So it wasn't all that unusual for her to wake up, shivering and disoriented, in the middle of the night.
But, this. This was entirely different.
“Nightmare...” Trying, unsuccessfully, to rub the sleep from her eyes, Alice bit back a yawn and glared. Slowly turning to regard her uninvited bedmate with a dark look as she tugged futilely at the wad of covers he'd tangled himself in. Alice let loose a low hiss. “Again?!”
This isn't your bed in the first place! Scolding him silently, she tugged viciously - futility - at her stolen blankets and watched as he continued to snore, oblivious to the world. Why are you even in my room? And stop stealing my covers!
Growling softly to herself, Alice shivered. Far too tired to expend the effort it would take to kick him out of the bed, Alice gave one last token tug to the blankets before giving it up as a lost cause. Her eyes trailing towards the thin glimmer of moonlight shining through her bedroom window as she stared, unsurprised, at the thick blanket of snow falling heavily from the sky.
Cold. She hugged her arms around herself and glanced grumpily back towards the incubus. Stupid caterpillar.
Nightmare remained blissfully asleep.
Caterpillar. Caterpillar. Caterpillar. Caterpillar.
...Nothing.
Alice gave a low frustrated sigh. Scanning fruitlessly about for her slippers even as she rubbed her arms, attempting to coax warmth back into her freezing limbs. She aimed one last snippy thought towards the sleeping bagworm nesting in her covers.
Fine then, be that way. I don't even care anymore. I'm just going to have to go steal your bed.
Honestly she didn't even know why he bothered to come in her room anymore. Her nightmares hadn't been nearly quite so bad as they had been previously. Not to mention that even as nice as her bed was, his was much more luxurious and-
“But yours is warmer.”
“Geh!” Alice jumped, fumbling dangerously close to the edge of the bed as she whirled around. “Nightmare?!”
He yawned sleepily in response and her cranky scowl deepened.
“Warmer, eh? I wouldn't know about that since someone keeps on stealing all the covers.” Fighting down a yawn of her own, she cautiously stuck a bare foot towards the ground and shivered. Frustrated and tired all at once, she shook her head slowly. “No. Too tired to argue... Just keep the covers. I'm going to go sleep somewhere el-”
A pair of arms darted out to catch the girl about the waist, tugging her firmly back into the bed as the blankets fluttered around them.
“There.” Pulling her back against his chest, Nightmare gave a content sigh. Already falling back asleep as he snuggled the girl closer. “See?...Much, much, warmer. Isn't it?”
And, for once, she couldn't disagree.
