“What if we got someone to kiss her?
“What?” Sabrina looked up slowly, sceptically, from the book she'd been skimming through. Her brow wrinkled.
“Granny,” Daphne clarified in an excited voice, scooting closer over the mess of research materials between them. “We get someone to kiss her to break the spell.”
“I don't think it works if you're possessed.” Thinking about how Mirror had gotten into their Grandmother in the first place, Sabrina frowned. ”He might just switch bodies if we did that.”
Her younger sister looked offended.
“Of course it would work! It always works. Think about it.” The younger girl tapped the nearest stack of books for emphasis. “True love's first kiss is like... the super cure! It fixes everything. It should fix Granny too.”
“It definitely doesn't work that way.” Shooting down her sister's nonsense more firmly this time, Sabrina returned to her reading, browsing half-heartedly through a story of a teeny, tiny, woman and a teeny, tiny bone. “Granny's already been kissed lots by now, she's old; and, Grandpa Basil is dead.”
Daphne fell silent.
“And,” Sabrina continued. “It has to be romantic, remember? Just like for Mom and Dad and Pu-”
She stopped, flushed, and scowled at that last, half formed thought. Her eyes darted warily towards her sister.
The younger girl, on the other hand, was too deep in thought and too blissfully unaware of Sabrina's slip to tease her about it.
“Children.” Mr Canis peered into the room, cane tapping softly on the door frame. “Your parents are-”
He was interrupted by a high-pitched, garbled squeal of delight as Daphne tried to cheer and bite her hand at the same time. Whirling towards her sister as her eyes lit up in realization.
“Sabrina! What about-”
“No.” She cut her off with a flat stare and a curt shake of her head before the girl could go off on a romantic tangent. “Just no. Now sit back down and help me finish reading these before you weird Mr. Canis out.”
