“Am I going to be in trouble?”
Maya gave a start. Hastily, tearing her eyes away from the new mess of rubble covering the academy courtyard, she gave a surprised look to the young, dirt-streaked Uchida Fumiaki and frowned.
He'd been so quiet she'd almost forgotten he was there.
“I didn't tell anyone where I was going.” He admitted. Shrinking under her hard gaze, he shifted uncomfortably in place. “And I snuck all around the classrooms. It's a really nice school.”
Drawn out of his nervousness despite himself, the boy glanced back out at their bedraggled surroundings, eyes widening in curiosity at the occult bric-a-brac he could see littering the area. And, biting her lip, Maya frowned the familiarity of the gesture - echoes of the man he would have become in a future she'd just helped ensure that he would never know - then, she shook her head.
“You're definitely in trouble.” She declared flatly. “You ran away from home, trespassed on school grounds... I have no doubt your mother is furious with you.”
Fumiaki cringed.
“However. While you can't change whats been done, you can chose how you will face the consequences of your actions.” Maya drew herself up, every inch the proud Headmistress of Waldenstein Academy. One hand extended heavily towards him. “Face the future on your own two feet.”
“...I guess. I can try.” The answer fit with the child-sized hand that slid slowly, hesitantly, into hers and Maya had to hold down the instinctive urge to scold him for sounding so indecisive. “But...”
“Hm?”
“Do you think, maybe, I could come back to visit sometime?” He asked in a tiny, childish voice. “After my Mom's done being angry with me?”
“Not for a while, no.” His shoulder sank, disappointed, at her dismissal and Maya gave a small, private smile, adding slowly. “The Academy doesn't accept perspective students until they're at least fourteen.”
He beamed.

The principal of Waldenstein Academy was just as magnificent as she had been the first time Fumiaki had seen her - strong, confident, and enigmatically beautiful - even if the way she frowned disapprovingly down at him had him wiping sweaty palms against his finest dress slacks in an effort to hide his nerves.
He felt like a lost child all over again.
“And? We've covered most of the academic aspects at this point.” Scanning his application one last time, she lowered it slowly to her desk. Leaning regally back in her seat, she tossed her head, long black hair rippling silkily behind her as she crossed her legs. Blue eyes fixed piercingly upon him. “So, why else are you interested in attending Waldenstien Academy, Uchida-san?”
“Eh, I, um....” Swallowing sharply under her scrutiny, he trembled and blurted out the first thing he could think of. “I can bend spoons.”
Her lips thinned.
“Having so called abilities beyond the norm is not a requirement for admission into our institution.” She told him bluntly. “Contrary to popular belief, this school is a respectable academy, not a playground for those wishing to dabble in the occult-”
“I also really like that you can see the stars out here.” He interrupted unthinkingly and winced at the elegant arch of her eyebrow. Quickly ducking his head, he flushed, mumbling softly into his lap. “The skies are much clearer out here than they are in the city. It's pretty. And I've sort of always been interested in the constellations. And,” his voice dipped to a whisper. “And, I've always really liked this school...”
The young headmistress of Waldenstein Academy regarded him solemnly a moment. Then nodded.
“Very well.”
He jerked, head shooting up to look at her, and watched, eyes wide, as she collected his paperwork into a stack, tapping it smartly against her desk. Removing a new form from a desk drawer she set it on the desk twisting it around for him to see.
“You're accepted.” She concluded, rising up from her seat. “I believe you will fit nicely into our institution.”
Her lips twisted into a soft smile, eyes gentling for the first time and he felt his insides churning with an emotion he couldn't quite name yet.
“Welcome to Waldenstein Academy, Fumiaki-kun.”
