Author's Notes: **Spoilers** I suppose this is as good a time as any to warn that there's going to be spoilers? MLR spoilers covering about mid-series I suppose? Though I'm leaning more Matantei than Ragnarok. Ghost Hunt spoilers will likely cover the breath of the series, and, tentatively, some of the novels, with possible spoilers as to Naru's identity and definite spoilers for Mai's plethora of talents. So feel free to enlighten yourself to either series.
Author's Notes 2: Oh yes I did. XD
“All right, this is where I head off.” Jerking a thumb towards a turn in the road, Narugami propped his bokken up comfortably on his shoulder before turning to look skeptically at Mai. “You're sure you're going to be alright on your own? It's starting to get late. I don't mind walking you to the bus stop.”
“It's only a block or so further. I should be fine.” Working for the SPR had done wonders to quelch Mai's fear of the dark, and it wasn't quite late enough for her to be nervous yet. “Besides, you already did me a big favor by showing me to the detective agency.”
“Yeah, well.” Looking distinctly like he was attempting not to look too pleased with himself, Narugami shrugged. “All a part of good customer service.”
Mai grinned as he turned to leave.
“See ya round Taniyama-san.”
“Thanks for all your help!” She called after him. “See you next Thursday for the usual!”
He gave a low snort of amusement, throwing a casual wave over his shoulder; and, despite the fact that he was no longer watching, Mai waved back. Her spirits high as she continued on her way down the sidewalk.
All in all, Mai thought the trip had turned out to be rather successful - absent detective non-withstanding. Despite her earlier worries, the visit to the Enjaku Detective Agency had left her feeling strangely confident.
They weren't the kind of people who couldn't handle trouble.
…And Naru had been content to simply dismiss the whole thing. Self-centered narcissist that he was.
Scoffing softly under her breath, Mai turned to step up to the bus stop only to pause as a low chuckle drew her attention.
“Ah, look, it's the Museum-nee-chan, again.”
