“Well, well, I must confess that I'm impressed. I didn't think you had it in you, Nightmare.” Joker's snort of amusement went unnoticed by the faceless students milling about the courtyard below.
“Shut up.” The incubus narrowed his good eye. His face deathly pale as he floated to compensate for the unsteadiness in his legs.
Undeterred, Joker swept his hand out to indicate the school - still fuzzy around the edges, but, slowly and surely expanding to encase the world around it until Wonderland had all but melted seamlessly away.
“Not only did you manage to pull all of us into a Dream... But, you've made it so they won't notice anything amiss, haven't you?” He shook his head in wry appreciation. “Well played, indeed.”
Nightmare remained silent.
“Of course, you probably intended to make me forget as well but...” The pierrot shrugged, amicable smile expanding into something malicious. “Unfortunately, it seems that it's still my Season.”
“And it's my Dream. I won't allow you to do as you please, Joker. ” Still pale, Nightmare straightened slowly, warning softly. “...Alice has no guilt for you to manipulate here.”
“Now, I wouldn't be so sure about that...” Joker laughed lightly. Reaching up to pluck the floppy, jester's cap, from his head, he twirled it once, watching the bells and stripes faded away into the somber, pointed black of a wizard's hat, before putting it back on his head with a theatric flick of the wrist. He glanced slyly back at the incubus. “After all, you may have changed the playing field, but the Rules are still the same.”
