Should really be Greek tragedy, I feel, seeing as I'm not an enormous fan on comedy. Still - I like the plays - they're interesting. And I love how sometimes it feels like they're more about exploring characters rather than the plot, unlike a lot of modern drama. - latin textbooks:
Oooh - especially old ones!!! I have a thing about anything published before the 1950s - all the slightly dated english, and blatant sexism (they're all for *boys*) and how the authors are just rude to their readers. Brilliant. - oil painting:
I took art at school, and this was the medium that most appealed. It's so easy to change, and to paint - not really as hard as I thought it would be, anyway. There's a pleasure in trying to get it right. - portraiture:
I find one of the best ways to get a fascination out of your system is to draw a picture. I love portraiture, because I can express things I notice - nice noses, pretty eyes. Putting them all down is so satisfying. - roman history:
By this I don't mean military history - that is interesting in its own way too, but here I mean the political history. It is my belief that once that is understood, world history ceases to be such a mystery (as it is to me, at the moment). - string cheese:
Russian smoked cheese which comes in long thin strands, which are then plaited into fat plaits of cheese. It is ridiculously addictive, and great to eat while watching a movie, or trying to work. - used books:
I love finding books (especially classical texts) which have been annotated by people. I once found a draft of someone's autobiography in the pages of an enormous lexicon, and the shopkeeper let me keep it. It is one of my prize possessions.
