...a rewatch of "Fear Her" was in order. (Cut for picspam.)
I still feel that the hate for this episode is undeserved. IMO it's superior to S6's "Night Terrors," which is along a similar line. (Sorry, Gatiss.) While the giant dolls are arguably creepier than possessed!Chloe, the plot and the interactions between the Doctor and Rose make up for it. Plus, Rose gets to rescue the Doctor and save the Earth. With a pickaxe.
Rose really shines in this episode. She notices details the Doctor misses, and is able to save the day even when the Doctor isn't with her.
I also love the shippiness...
And the silliness...
And the heartwarmingness...
Ahh such a happy moment. :D I haven't actually watched the opening ceremonies yet, so THIS IS HOW IT REALLY HAPPENED OKAY.
Other musings:
- I am oddly impressed by how realistic their view of 2012 turned out to be. The cars look pretty damn close to what we drive now:
- "Who's gonna hold his hand now?" Billie Piper's puppy dog eyes are pretty darn heartbreaking.
- "Bob? Not you too, Bob?" The Nameless Commentator/Bob = NEW OTP.
Overall, perhaps not the best episode of S2, but still very enjoyable. It does a fantastic job of portraying the easy, loving relationship between the Doctor and Rose, and of foreshadowing the dangers of loneliness.
Aaaand here is where I have arbitrarily decided that the episode should end. XD
Happy Olympics watching, everyone!
