"She's a maniac..."

When I was in fifth grade, I began babysitting - for the Richards. They lived on a street behind mine and on the lake. There were two little girls. In the summers, they would take me with them on their beach vacations, and more than a few times the mom would be asked if I was a child from a previous marriage. I must have looked like her, but I don't remember her face anymore.

Anyways, thanks to babysitting for them, I was introduced to pop culture at the time. My first Madonna and Cindi Lauper videos were viewed surreptitiously at their home while I munched on snacks after the girls were in bed. They also had a lot of movies on VHS that I could watch. I worked my way through the "Corey" movies, Alien and others, and eventually happened upon what would become my fave, Flashdance.

Obviously, I decided, like many girls my age, that being a welder and dancer was the best future ever imagined! I practiced shedding bras in that "sexy come hither" way through a sleeve. Although more often than not, I ended up in a tangled mess. I can't imagine what that result had been if I had tried with the underwires I have these days. Sheesh! I danced with tape on my feet and leg warmers... Lol. What a dork!!

Well... TVLand is currently playing this old "gem," and yes, I'm watching it. Whoa... what a difference time makes. It certainly isn't what I remember it to be. (Alex was supposed to be 18 in the movie?!?! To my young self, I could have sworn she was OLD!!! Ha!) I can't quite look away... call me mesmerized by history. :-P

Maybe I should watch some of the older movies in my possession that I haven't viewed in years...

take a guess...
