"You'll never be hurt as much by being open as you have been hurt by remaining closed."
~ Martha Beck
The Dailies, as I call them. Some blog daily photos. Others daily sketches. All of them, it's a practice of routine, of seeing, of being more present in their worlds ~ whether they acknowledge it or not.
I'm having a day. A good one. A quiet one so far.
Until a few weeks back, my Saturday would have begun with a long phone conversation while I slowly awoke. I loved those conversations. They were a gift. Now, they are gone. My morning instead began with a wailing pup. She'd vomited in her crate and was visibly upset.
Since I cleaned her crate, I've done very little. Mostly just checked email and read blogs while downing an unreasonable amount of coffee. In the process, I caught something from the corner of my eye.
After a month of too much heat and not enough rain, it has finally rained some, and the bird bath outside my guest room window has fresh rainwater in it. What caught my attention... the tiniest finch splashing about.
It felt like such a gift. Esp after an emotional week.
It gave me a thought. I would like to try something new. To blog about daily gifts. Gifts come in all shapes and sizes. Some even appear to be harbingers of bad news at first. But when you see them and thank Whomever for them, it makes your world a little brighter. Or at least, it does in mine. So that's my goal. I hope to last a month... :)
