Small Blessings ~ July 2007
Several months ago when my grandmother passed away, one coworker was especially supportive. He had a ready supply of hugs, sent me on the road with new tunes, and checked up on me periodically. Within a rather short period of time, he was transformed from coworker to a much needed friend.
Well, it seems I finally "returned" his kindness, and in doing so, cost myself an in-town-friend. See, he's been miserable. He had plans to go to school in NYC, but he's also gifted in creating excuses. So he wasn't going to go. This would have been the second year he postponed these plans, and the school might not be so forgiving a third year. Thus, the source of his misery. So I listened to all his reasons and then swiftly tossed them all aside like the wasted air they were. It now appears he will be going this autumn, after all.
While I am very excited for him, it has also made me very aware of how brief a window we sometimes have in one another's lives. Where we are thick as thieves one moment and gone the next.
So I just wanted to say thank you for sharing this moment with me. Your presence has been a gift, and I just wanted to let you know that I appreciate that you gave it to me.
