I forgot about LJ...completely. And I don't know what to blame. I really don't. But as I got bored, and suddenly remembered LJ in my boredom, here I am. I'm not even going to try to catch up on all my friends. So I'll just tell everyone what's going on in my life.
Ant and I leave in less than a week to visit my parentals. It's the first vacation we've taken together...and we're going to a wedding. My stepbrother's wedding. Since he doesn't know about this, I can tell everyone what we got them. A lovely teapot and a beautiful selection of Twinings tea. Very British, yes? Well, it's not like we had many options. Apparently, we can't buy anything off their registries because we can't enter a foreign billing address, and we couldn't wait 'til we got to the States, because the china and flatwear they picked out are horrendously expensive, and the other two stores don't have locations where my parents live. We didn't want to risk getting stuck with the most expensive pieces of the patterns they picked out. Of course, it's not like they expect a present for us. I believe someone told me the best present they're getting from us is our presence, considering we must be the only overseas guests. But who wants to show up to a family wedding empty handed? This time next week we'll be in NC. Anyone care to tell me what the weather is like in Raleigh so I can pick appropriate clothes for the wedding without having to pack cold and warm weather alternatives? Lucky Ant...he gets to wear slacks and a nice shirt with long sleeves no matter what the weather. At least they are NICE slacks, and a NICE shirt, thanks to my parents. And I did make him get a very nice tie before we even got married.
There's also the matter of the family interrogation Ant gets to go through. Now my parents have almost a whole WEEK to get to know him. And my grandmother gets the weekend, and my brother gets a Saturday. Poor guy. Luckily, he only gets to deal with my stepsister during the wedding. My stepbrother has already done all the interrogating he wants to, most likely. It's not like we're close, and he's older than even Ant. I'm really nervous, because while I know my stepmother already likes him, and my grandmother will no matter what (I've been waxing lyrical about him since he first came to visit), my dad is a wild card. He's glad I'm finally happy and stable, and found part of my place in the world, but that doesn't mean he has to like Ant. He does respect him already to some degree, but I don't know how well they'll get along. Thank god for interfering women, there are plenty to sway his mind.
Other than that my life is incredibly boring. I can't even search for jobs, as the good ones will be gone by the time I get back, and there's no point in getting a job when you're going to take a week long vacation in the first month you're working there.
Woohoo for a boring life and a long vacation. God, the travelling is going to suck. We have to get an earlier bus to the airport because it takes so long to get through security. So no sleep for a long long time, unless we manage to sleep on the bus and plane. And then there is customs. At Newark airport. Normally, that wouldn't daunt me. But it's my first time through there, and Ant and I get to go through different lines because we have different passports. I won't mind customs at Gatwick, that's easy, and I've done it enough to cope. Hope and pray four hours is enough in Newark. My dad said it should be, and he should know. Even though he hasn't done Newark in a long time, he has done other NY airports since 9/11. And why is Newark considered a NY airport by pretty much everyone? It's in NJ. I wish we could have flown USAir through Charlotte...at least you can smoke in Charlotte. I'll just have to hope there's somewhere I can nip off for a cig in Newark, even if I have to hide between cars in a parking garage. That's what I managed (with the other nicotene deprived passengers) in Philly. But what about smoking in public in NJ? Have they outlawed it yet? Maybe I should check their website, if I can find it.
Sorry for all the rambling. As I said, I'm incredibly BORED.
