The last month has been a blur. A lot of projects have been coming due one after the other (or on top of eachother) and it's taken every bit of my sanity to keep on top of them. Thankfully, the senioritis and neighbor problems have been much diminished this semester, so keeping on track has been a lot less ulcer-inducing.
The major thing that's been making life difficult this semester is the whole job hunt. I was hoping that starting last semester would have put me ahead of the curve on this, but it hasn't afforded me many advantages against my colleagues. What has been paying off is actually following through with the job-application process and hitting all the "to do" points that innumerable speakers have told me. Getting into company systems before events is the biggest one. Floored L3, 42U, AECOM and Xcel at last week's job fair with that tactic. Second has been "get questions for interviewers". I have trouble with this one since usually my questions are answered somewhere else in a talk, but being able to ask some in-depth questions about the industry really made waves with Zachary, NREL, and Cable Labs. Also, some other irons are coming back slowly but surely on some other prospects from SELINC and Schneider. Really need to finish this week strong with some other apps and I'll be in a really good place to go into the rest of March for interviews.
With all this work, I was afraid that it was going to be a bust. With each requisition I applied for taking at least an hour (from finding, to creating a profile, to writing a cover letter, etc) and research on firms I had never heard of taking up a lot of time as well, I didn't want all that work to be for naught. But today I checked my mail and had 3 interview requests waiting for me. Micron wants to move to the next stage (seemed to impress their head of Test), 42U wants a phone interview and Schneider wants me at their on-campus interview. If I could get 2 or 3 more ping backs from the last week of work, I will call the operation a rousing success!
Unfortunately, the job search has interfered with school work. Thankfully my emag test was moved to today, but I am lagging behind on a bunch of projects. The hope is that once I can clear out this week, I will finally have some time to put the nose to the school grindstone and pump out some much needed work. Thankfully, most of my prof's are reasonable about the load up to graduation and I am not truly drowned yet.
Lastly, it has been real tough with all the shit above to be able to tend to my personal life. I know Anya and I have been a bit at odds schedule wise and it's been a major source of friction. Doesn't help we are both stressing about similar problems (too much to do, too little time)... we both really need a good weekend of slacking off and blowing off steam!
Well, I've burned enough time bloggin'... gotta get back to the grind!
