Report and a couple more pics
Well, if we go next year, we definitely have to get a weekend pass instead of a day pass. They way they have things set up, they have guest talks overlap photos/autos, so in order to get autographs, whatever, you might miss something else. If your go both days you have a much better chance of seeing more of what you want! But I can't complain because the main reason we went was for Chris Judge....and we did gets pics/autograph/and saw his talk. But I'd wanted to get autos and see the talk with the Farscape guests (Lani Tupu and Raelee Hill)......We were in line waiting for Chris's auto for more than 2 1/2 hours and just as we walked in, Lani and Raelee were leaving! It turns out they'd come in (of their own accord) 2 hours early, but it hadn't been posted anywhere, so if we had known, we could have tried to get in early. Or, maybe not. As it was....here's how our day went!.....
We got up early and left home around 6, and stopped to eat first at Peppermint's. We finally got to the hotel at 10:30 (we were at breakfast till 6:50!!!) and since it was so early we couldn't check in. We were kind of disappointed, cuz lots of times they have a room anyway and can check you in early, even though check out time isn't till later. They did let us check our bags, but I had to go digging to get out my clothes to change into, as I was wearing a skanky tank top and sweat pants, had no makeup on and was wearing my glasses. So I changed and stuff in a stall, and we checked our bags, then we got a soda and went to line up for Chris's photos. He was a little late, but once the line started moving, it went pretty quick. I, of course, went fan girl and was mute when I went up. he shook my hand and I'm line smiling...duh.....Totally forgetting to mention the gift we brought him for Trish. Tony remembered (thank god) and he said "It's not panties, is it?!" and was laughing his ass off, it was quite funny. Since it was packed up in the depth of our suitcase, we told him we'd give it to him at dinner. His talk was funny as hell. He is awesome! I can't wait to see him *again* at Gatecon, LOL! How lucky am I?! I am terrible at remembering things so this is not the best report, LOL. He talked about how his pic on the season 6 DVDs doesn't look like him and they had to shrink his head cuz his was bigger than RDAs. One girl commented on this as his "shrinkage problem", and everyone was rolling. Before the talk, he asked if there were kids, and there was a little girl, and he asked her "does your mommy cuss?" and it was funny, whenever he said something "off color", he'd address the kid and make up some silly explanation to make it sound ok. He kept drifting off the question at hand, which I actually like, but he said he has some sort of ADD or attention problem so when we notice him doing that we have to tell him "Chris, come back". Anyway, he was just a hoot.
I do think the extra $50 each for our "reserved seating" was a waste. When we walked in (no line) we could've sat one row behind where we ended up, and paid less. And I still had people's fat heads in my way!
After his talk, we got in the never ending line. I could see Dougie in a corner, he wasn't part of the big line up...didn't have a regularly scheduled auto/photo or anything, just a table set up where he sat and signed. Not many people were coming up, and he kept getting up and wandering away. I wanted to go and see him, but I didn't want to lose our place in line. I think that line is why I am so tired. That's a long time to be in line. Lines are the only thing I don't like about cons. Oh well, it was worth it! We got out in time to catch a whopping 10 minutes of the Farscape talk. :(
Then we went to check in and get dressed for dinner. We went down for dinner, which was the most fun aside from meeting Chris, that is. When we sat down the table was so tightly packed, it originally looked as if it was full, and I was sad cuz I'd wanted to be sat with a guest. But as we sat, I noticed there *was* an empty seat, and just waiting to find out who it'd be. Turns out it was George Hertzberg
and for a split second I was disappointed, as I am not a Buffy fan and had no clue who he was. But he was awesome and I am so glad he sat with us. He was funny and interesting, and I felt 100% at ease with him. (maybe cuz you can't go fan girl on someone you aren't a fan of to begin with?) but I'm a fan now, LOL! :) He's quite a cutie. This very weird guy, Neville, was sitting at our table, and he was sitting next to George and kind of turned his chair away from him, was kind of rude, and answered questions short-like. Hard to describe, just odd. George kept looking over at me and raising his eyebrow and mouthing the words "is it me?" When Neville left he asked George what was next for him, and George told him he came up with this new animated series, yadda yadda.......which was all made up, a joke.....I could've died! He was really funny......He kept giving me these goofy looks and stuff. I thought he was just great. I think I'm gonna go try to find everything I can about him online now! I wish I'd gotten pics/autos with him, etc. I could shoot myself, cuz he was at our table that whole time, I took a few pics of him, but it didn't occur to me until *after* that he probably would've been very obliging to have one taken of us both there. Oh well :(
Anyway, not all the guests circulated, but Lani and Raelee
did a quick pass by our table, as did Walter Koenig
I didn't spot Chris at *all* so we tried to chase him down, and ended up going to the con office, and the woman there talked to Chris's liason who was going to swing by and pick up the gift from Trish. I trust that the transfer happened, but wish I could've been there anyway. We waited awhile, but I guess the two of them were on their way to the office and their plans changed, so the liason was going to pick it up after the masquerade and get it to Chris. If he didn't get it I owe Trish $50 and I'd feel like shit! But I really tried! (and we missed more stuff while we were waiting in that damn con office with a couple major geeks who were manning the joint!)
The masquerade (which we missed half of) was pretty cool, I must say, these people (even the ones not in the masquerade) really have some creative costumes. Not my cup of tea (would never dress up) but they can really do a nice job. Afterwards, we went to check out what they call "10 Forward", which turns out to be the hang out for the uber geeks, it's like the big ass suites with the 2 floors across the hall from each other way up on floor 11, all open and everyone sitting around on chairs drinking pop and beer and eating chips. In one room people were watching ST-TOS, and in another, they were just talking. It wasn't exactly our kind of scene, and we were tired, so we went to bed. There was a dance, but we didn't go to that either. (Being with your husband tends to put a little crimp in your fun, LOL)
This morning we had breakfast and left, as we only had Saturday passes. Then we stopped at an outlet mall and did some shopping, haha! Didn't get much. I was so spacey and tired. Matter of fact, I don't know if I'll make it to fireworks tonight. If they have them...it's VERY windy and a chance of thunderstorms (it's hot though, 81 degrees).
All in all a good time.....verdict: I'd go again next year if they had good guests, but would get a weekend pass.
My mission: to check out my new friend George! :)
