◄ NERO ►
【 BASIC INFO 】

[ Full Name ] Nevelle Robert Leingod
[ Title/Nickname ] Nero
[ Age ] 16 (as of SD 790)
[ Gender/Sexuality ] Male / Heterosexual
[ Race ] Half-Terran, Half-Elicoorian

[ Appearance ] Nero is usually mistaken for a harmless young boy. He's rather short, standing at only around 5'4", and he has what Nausy calls a "mommy's boy" look - unkempt hair, youthful features, an ectomorphic build, and a charming, boyish smile. He, thankfully, does not have his father's head-turning blue hair; instead his is dark brown. His eyes are a vibrant green like his parents', and are small in size, like that of his Japanese paternal grandmother. And just as he has no distinguishing physical feature, he has no particular fashion style, either. He dresses according to the occasion, or with whatever everyone else is wearing at the moment. He's good at blending in, and he doesn't make an effort to stand out unless there's a need to.

【 IN-DEPTH 】

[ Personality ] Nero has an extremely strong sense of duty. He has a "do it and get on with it" attitude; he'd look at the facts, quickly decide what should be done, execute the action and move on to the next thing. He doesn't have problems with authority, and as a matter of fact, he'd rather follow than lead. He rarely takes his personal feelings into account when it comes to his missions, putting service and loyalty to his country above himself. He's a risk-taker, but he's no daredevil; he's willing to plunge into danger and get his hands dirty, but he's not going to throw away his life needlessly. He's been told that he's just like his mother and his maternal grandfather in that aspect, to which he just smiles and says that it must run in the family.

While he's intelligent - his paternal grandfather, after all, was an excellent genomorphist, and his father is becoming as esteemed as Elena Frahm in the field of runological science - he finds studying a chore, and insists that experience is the best teacher. He is much too action-oriented to deal with routines and theory; he prefers asking questions and seeing for himself how things are done. He's flexible, very good at improvising, and is a skilled observer.

He's rather impersonal, however. He knows the names and faces of those he works with, but apart from publicly-known information about them, he knows next to nothing. And he doesn't bother to find out; he's naturally curious, but his curiosity is directed elsewhere and not towards personal matters. Because of his "business is business" outlook, he oftentimes ends up hurting or offending others without being aware of it, giving the impression that, despite that charming smile and friendly demeanor, he's actually indifferent and uncaring.

He has good control over his emotions - so far, anyway. But he's likely to break when he's pushed to the limit.

[ Strengths/Abilities ] Experimentation has enabled Nero to develop his own fighting style. While he's not really a fan of using runology in combat, he's learned to appreciate its usefulness as all four of his mentors use the same (Fayt and Adray with swords, Nel with daggers, and Cairine with her fists). Thus, he fights with a sword and his feet, but he supplements his physical attacks with runology by enchanting his sword with fire and ice elemental spells. He picked up most of his swordfighting moves from Adray, but he's modified them over the years by incorporating other styles; apparently, he's inherited his father's ability to adopt combat moves simply from observation. One particularly strong influence on his personal fighting style is the Edarl sword style used by Albel and eventually Nausy.

[ Weaknesses ] His slight form leaves him susceptible to injuries, and because he's not physically powerful, he's instead capitalized on his speed, agility and endurance. In fact, some people say that his speed is unnatural.

【 BACKGROUND 】

[ History ] Nero was born in the latter part of SD 775 in Aquios, capital of the Sacred Kingdom of Aquaria. His mother, Nel Zelpher, was the commander of the Secret Legion, the elite intelligence unit of the Aquarian army, while his father, Fayt Leingod, was a researcher who worked with Elena Frahm at the Runological Weapon Research Facility. He was named after his grandfathers, Nevelle Zelpher and Robert Leingod, who were both esteemed men in their own fields; however, because Nero was unaware of his father's alien origins, he'd never heard of his paternal grandfather's exploits.

He spent most of his childhood days in his father's lab; with Nel frequently away on missions, it became Fayt's job to look after their son. He was no problem child, however. In fact, the only complaint of the research team was that he was naturally curious, and therefore he never stopped asking questions. So they'd give him books and papers to read and show him some of their handiwork, and in return, he'd do whatever they ask of him. When nobody in the facility could look after him - there were instances when Fayt and the rest of the team would be involved in top-secret work and had to lock everyone else out - he'd be sent all the way to the Kingdom of Airyglyph and left under the care of the Nox family, as Albel and Cecilia were very good friends of his parents. That was how he met Solomon Marcus and Nausicaa Selphie, and the three became fast friends.

Despite the fact that his parents were often away, Nero held no resentment towards them. He understood that what they were doing was for the greater good and that he would be called to render his services to the kingdom in the future as well. When Marcus and Nausy likewise expressed their desire to someday join the army, they together agreed to take the initiative and prepare themselves to answer the call of battle. Marcus ended up under the tutelage of Count Woltar, lord of Kirlsa, commander of Airyglyph's Storm Brigade and the twins' grand-uncle; Nausy sought training from no less than her father, who was a master of the Edarl sword style and the captain of the Dragon Brigade; while Nero became apprentice to Adray Lasbard, the former Crimson Blade alongside his grandfather Nevelle, and to his parents to a lesser degree.

At fifteen, he finally signed up for the Aquarian army. He was initially assigned to work under Clair Lasbard in the Shield Legion, but he was transferred a year later to the Secret Legion and partnered with Cairine Wolfricht. Eventually, he was dispatched to Arias to keep tabs on Airyglyph's so-called Greeton Expedition, which suited him just fine - Marcus, who'd enlisted in the Storm Brigade, was just over the border in Kirlsa, anyway.

【 EXTRA 】
◆ Nero uses his father's sword, the Levantine. Fayt had stopped using it ever since he chose to focus on science and research, but when the time was right, he brought it out and gave it to his son.
◆ When not on duty, he would either help Fayt out with his research, or sneak out to Kirlsa to hang out with Marcus. Usually both - he'd volunteer to gather information for his father, and then drop by to see his best friend while doing so.
◆ He had a crush on Nausy when he was younger, and was in fact often teased for being like his father and finding fiery, older women with red hair attractive. They dated sometime when he was fourteen, but she eventually broke up with him, saying that he was immature and much too young for her. At first he'd thought it was because he was unable to handle their relationship "properly" (as he was much too engrossed with his training), but it was simply because she'd taken a liking to Iohannes Boislevesque, a Glyphian nobleman. While bearing no ill feelings, he respected her wishes and distanced himself from her, but they eventually rekindled their friendship, especially after she came running to him and Marcus, confiding how badly treated she was by Iohannes.
◆ He's rather fond of the twins' younger sister, Fiammetta, and in fact he's been encouraging her to study runology in Aquios.
◆ He also shares Marcus' dislike for King Airyglyph XIV, if only because he's likewise aware that the warmonger Vox is pulling Arzei's strings.
