New life goal: spend time in Scotland. It's dramatic, incredibly beautiful, friendly, and then there are those funny accents. A three-day tour of the Highlands and Skye was not nearly enough time. I need to go there again.

Another new life goal: research alcoholic drinks, because now that I'm legally allowed to drink them I find that I don't know how. I had cider today, it was good, rather weakly-flavored. It made me sleepy.

I'm working at a small backpacking hostel in a small town called Berwick-upon-Tweed*, and though for the first week and a half it was terrifyingly difficult, making bookings, showing people to their rooms (these things are hard for me; God, why did I work for MICA's admissions office, giving tours?! it's so hard for me!), I think I'm okay at it now. Angela, the hostel owner, went away for a day, and all by myself I handled phone calls and cleaning and making conversation with people, and I think I did pretty damn well. Except for the incident where I got locked out but I handled that too! In conclusion, I can do things eventually! It just takes a long time.

*Lesson time! It's the northernmost town in England; has changed hands between the English and the Scottish something like 11 times; is perhaps still at war with Russia because of a technicality. It's famous for its flocks of swans.
