Because I am the laziest typer ever.... This is what I'm freaking out about, as written over at MEDA:
GGGGGGUUUUUUUYYYYYSSSSSSSSSSS! I just won the most AWESOME ebay auction of my LIFE!!!!! *parties*
Let's start at the begining.
Has anyone ever read the Trixie Belden mystery books? They were originally written by Julie Campbell, and continued by lots of other authors under the pseudonym Kathryn Kenny. The first one was published in 1948 and they were published sporadically until 1986. They focus on a 13/14 year old girl (maybe she gets to 15? I haven't read the last 8 volumes) named Trixie Belden and her group of friends and the adventures and mysteries they get involved with. The kids are pretty well traveled, so the stories take place all over the country and they are SO much fun!
Here's a link! So! I own the first 16 volumes (there are 39 total) plus one extra from a couple books later. Some were my mom's when she was a kid, some I've picked up in antique stores and used book stores, and some I've bought off the internet. I've read nearly all of them, minus a few (2 in the middle, and the last 8). And I started reading through them again and thought I'd poke around to see if I could wrangle any more. So I shopped around and found some on ebay, and Amazon, and some other little book sites, but no cohesive sets, or if there was a set, it was the ones I already owned, and it was getting very frustrating. About 7 days ago some one on ebay posted a miracle.
ALL 39 BOOKS. EVERY LAST ONE.
This is a miracle because the last 5 books of the series are nearly impossible to get your hands on. Let's have an example.
Let's take a look at #38. Check out the "2 used & new available from......."
Yeah. So this lady posted ALL 39 BOOKS, which is a miracle in and of itself, and she put them STARTING AT $60. DUDE. Since there was so long to go until the auction ended I just watched them all week. And people started bidding and the price climbed, first over $100, then over $200, where it stalled at $251 for the rest of the week. Today, it jumped over $300. I still hadn't put in a bid. I just kept watching it, letting people freak out.
45 seconds to the end of the auction and I placed my bid. I set it at $500.
22 seconds to the end. Two more bids came through, but they weren't high enough.
4 seconds to go, and another bid came through.
AND I STILL WON.
*heart attack* I got the miracle set, including the impossible last five volumes, for only $351.50!!!!! *dies* I about fell down the stairs in my house to shout and hug my mom. You guys have NO IDEA (maybe a little after this post) just how nerdy I can be about books, especially older books, and especially these books. This moment in my life is bigger than a red letter day. I may just explode pretty soon.
Celebrate in my ninja victory!! *parties*
