Glow

Kibum turned the page of his book, eyes glued to the neatly printed text typed across the paper. He was almost done with the book, and he began to tear up. It was so touching. The main character was just about to confess to the love of his life. It was one of the sweetest things Kibum had ever read in his life.

Go for it! Kibum was chanting in his head, slowly curling up into a ball from the anticipation. Confess already! The intensity was driving him up the wall! He couldn’t stop fidgeting with his feet, and his heart rate began to increase.

The hero in the book leaned forward, and the two were inches from each other. Kiss, KISS! Kibum continued to cheer them on in his mind.

Then suddenly the door was swung open as a very excited Donghae rushed into the room with a grin spreading from ear to ear. Or at least up until he saw Kibum almost falling off the couch, and the cause of why he was.

“Ew!” Donghae pretended to gag, “Romance novels, Kibum?”

Kibum’s eyes were about as wide as saucers, and his mouth hanging open like a dead fish. He had been caught red handed, “Erm…well, uh.”

“Ah!” Donghae continued, “And it’s hetero?”

Kibum slid down, sitting in the chair normally now. He pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose looking confused, “What’s so bad about….Hetero?”

“Nothing,” Donghae shrugged, “But,” He kneeled down next to the chair Kibum was sitting on and leaned over on the arm of the chair, his nose inches away from Kibum’s cheek, “The good kind is when you get into the…well, guy guy.”

“What?!” Kibum said pulling back from Donghae almost falling off the arm of the chair.

Donghae just laughed, “I’m kidding, calm down.”

Kibum sighed, sinking back into the cushions, “Don’t kid around so much…I can’t tell when you are and when your not.”

“That is why you need to learn these things.” Donghae laughed, and then looked at the pages of Kibum’s book curiously, “So, is there any good….scenes?”

“Scenes?” Kibum asked confused, “What do you mean?”

“Like…where they get it on?” Donghae asked, only to be met with a more blank expression from Kibum, “Oh for crying out loud! Do they ever have sex?”

Kibum’s cheeks grew bright red, no words coming from his mouth.

“If you get to technical with these things,” Donghae explained, “Then it takes all of the fun out of everything, and it’s not a joke anymore.”

Kibum nodded the color in his cheeks slowly fading.

“There are, aren’t there?” Donghae laughed clapping his hands together, “Didn’t know you were such a pervert Kibum.

Kibum hesitated for a moment and then asked slowly, “Is that supposed to be a joke?”

“Good job!” Donghae slapped a hand down on Kibum’s shoulder, “Learning slowly but surely.”

Kibum smiled and shook his head, Donghae, Donghae.

“Anyways, sorry for intruding on your…well…romance novel,” Donghae said standing up and holding out his hand, “But, I came in to show you something, so you need to come with me.”

Kibum hesitated, his book or Donghae? His book or Donghae….Donghae or the book?

Then Donghae decided for him. “Put your book down,” Donghae took the book from his hands and placed it onto the small coffee table, “Grab my hand and let’s go.”

Kibum sighed, couldn’t argue with him now. Taking Kibums’s hand, Donghae lifted him off the chair and dragged him out of the room up the stairs and onto the roof.

Kibum was met with a very none welcomed gust of freezing air that made Kibum…well, freeze.

They walked out onto the roof, and Donghae gave a sigh of relaxation. “It’s so beautiful out isn’t it?”

Kibum’s teeth began chattering, as he followed Donghae’s gaze. He looked up at the jaw dropping sight above him. The stars were glowing so brightly, like little light bulbs.

“Yeah…” Kibum was finally able to mutter through his chattering teeth.

“Good grief!” Donghae exclaimed looking over at Kibum, “It isn’t THAT cold up here!”

Kibum laughed and bowed his head, shoving his hands into his pockets.

Then a warm arm was draped over his shoulders, “Is that better?” Donghae asked, eyebrows raised at his friend.

“Yeah,” Kibum replied, biting his lip to keep from shivering.

“The stars are so bright, aren’t they?” Donghae thought out loud shifting part of his weight onto Kibum.

“Yeah,” Kibum agreed, nodding his head.

“Do you say anything else besides, yeah?” Donghae asked.

“Yeah,” Kibum said, a grin spreading across his face.

“Ouch, ah, un!” Donghae exclaimed shielding his eyes.

Kibum’s smile faded, “What?”

“Ah!” Donghae said squinting, “Your smile was so bright I think you blinded me!”

Kibum pushed Donghae playfully, “You are so…so…”

“So what?” Donghae asked, “So amazing! I know, I know.”

Kibum laughed and shook his head.

“No, not again!” Donghae exclaimed again covering his eyes, “His smile glows brighter than the stars!” He shouted.

“Yeah, yeah, okay Donghae.” Kibum faked a laugh that time, “You can stop being weird now.”

Donghae took his place, leaning on Kibum’s shoulder once again, “Stop killing the mood!” He whined.

Kibum just shook his head.

“Wouldn’t this like…make a good scene in one of those books?” Donghae asked, a silly grin on his face, eyes out of focus staring at the stars.

“What do you mean?” Kibum asked.

“Like on of those Romance books of yours.” Donghae said poking Kibum in the side. “Wouldn’t it make a good lovey dovey kind of scene?”

Kibum shrugged, “Sure.”

Donghae laughed, and broke away from Kibum spinning in a circle on one foot and landing on one knee. “Kibum!” He called in an overly dramatic voice that made Kibum cringe.

“Yes?” Kibum asked just playing along with Donghae’s random behavior.

“Oh, Kibum!” Donghae continued in his over exaggerated voice, “Your eyes glow brighter then any others I have ever scene!” Snatching Kibum’s hand, Donghae kissed it gently, “And your skin gives a soft glow of perfection!”

Kibum rolled his eyes only to have Donghae tell him to just play along in a harsh whisper.

“Oh, Donghae!” Kibum said deadpanned.

Donghae pursed his lips impatiently waiting for Kibum.

“Oh fine.” Kibum coughed to clear his throat, and in a high pitched squeaky voice he repeated, “Oh Donghae!”

“My lovely, lovely Kibum!” Donghae continued to praise Kibum’s features every time using the same adjective.

“Why am I so….glowing?” Kibum asked annoyed that Donghae kept on using ‘glowing’ for everything. Like his ‘glowing hair’ ‘glowing skin’ ‘glowing eyes’ ‘glowing fingernails’ and glowing lips.’

“What’s up with glowing?” Kibum rephrased his question.

Donghae shrugged trying to find an answer.

“Am I supposed to be a star or something? Because If I glowed that much I don’t think people would be able to look at me.” Kibum concluded.

“Yes, that is what you are my dear.” Donghae continued to play his game, “You are a star. More importantly, you are my star.”

“I don’t think this is at all close to romance novels.” Kibum interjected dampening the mood more.

“Why not?” Donghae asked standing and brushing off his pants, “Is it not cheesy enough for your taste?”

Kibum laughed.

“It’s not a joke this time, pal.” Donghae said, getting annoyed and getting up in Kibum’s face, “Yeah, no joke.”

Kibum laughed again, putting his hand over his mouth.

“Nuh uh,” Donghae put his hand on his hip and with the other snapped his fingers, “Oh no you didn’t! You did not just laugh at me!”

Kibum crouched down, laughing to hard to even stand.

Donghae finally broke his character and joined Kibum on the ground, “Jeeze, I didn’t think I was THAT funny.”

Kibum rubbed his eyes, taking a deep breath.

“Come on, Kibum!” Donghae shouted, “Breath! BREATH!”

Kibum laughed again clapping his hands, “You need to stop making me laugh!”

“But it’s fun.” Donghae defended.

“Yeah, but what if I died.” Kibum asked leaning his hand behind him for support.

“Why would you die?” Donghae asked mimicking Kibum’s position.

Kibum smiled, “What if I stopped breathing because I laughed so hard?”

“There are things called CPR, my friend,” Donghae laughed staring up at the sky.

“You kiss me, then you die.” Kibum said chuckling.

“Aw, doesn’t Kibummy wummy want a kissy wissy from Fishy wishy?”

Kibum laughed again, “I’ll pass.”

“You’re gonna regret that one.” Donghae said stretching.

“Oh really?” Kibum asked eye brows raised.

“Yes,” Donghae said simply sighing, “Miss out BIG TIME!”

“Are you sure you aren’t going to be the one to miss out?” Kibum asked smirking.

Donghae laughed and pointed to one of the stars, “You see that star Kibum?”

“Yeah,” Kibum answered.

“It reminds me of you…do you want to know why?” Donghae asked trying to hold in his giggling.

“Why? Because it‘s glowing the brightest?” Kibum asked looking at Donghae for the answer.

“It’s because it’s the fattest one up there!” With that Donghae bolted as far away from Kibum as possible trying not to trip from giggling so hard.

“Aish!” Kibum exclaimed chasing after Donghae. “That was mean!”

Donghae shrugged, “It’s just the truth!”

Kibum just laughed catching up to Donghae, leaning on his shoulder and looking back up at the sky. “See that one?” Kibum pointed to one of the stars, “It reminds me of you.”

“Why?” Donghae asked placing his hands on his hips bracing himself for what Kibum was going to say.

“Because its so tiny.” Kibum laughed avoiding Donghae’s elbow to his stomach, “And that was meant below the belt!”

“Ah!” Donghae whined trying to hit Kibum, “That was mean!”

Kibum just shrugged running towards the stairs off the roof, trying to avoid Donghae’s fist to his head.
