Update - Apparently the cyclone is strongest EVER on record. Stronger then Hurricane Wilma... Should be hitting us about midday tomorrow / late evening....
Dear all
The Institute is keeping a close eye on the situation. There is a meeting of the government emergency committee at 11am today and based on the outcomes of that meeting decisions will be made on whether to send staff home. Please be aware though that my contacts tell me that the likely outcome will be:
Schools will stay open until normal time, however there will be no after school care. At that point government officers with children will be allowed to leave work.
Given this information it has been decided that if the 11am meeting does make the above decisions the Institute buses will leave at 1.30pm. This will allow staff based in Batchelor with children in after school care to pick up their children and allow time for last minute shopping and clearing up of yards. Staff living in the cyclone affected area and who drove down today will also be allowed to leave at the same time. Staff in Parap annex will be allowed to leave at the same time as government staff in Darwin, probably 2.30pm. Staff who live in Batchelor are currently outside of the affected area and decisions will be made re work based on information out of the 11am meeting.
I will update this email at 11.30am or as soon as I hear the outcome of the meeting.
