SCHOOLED

Last night after rehearsal, I stopped by Cafe Septieme to visit with Libby, Sarah, ccdeville, and margiee. Delightful! We talked about bathroom politics (why do men avoid standing at urinals next to one another? Do straight men peek, too? What's the point of urinals? Why not just have more stalls?), and the male ability to "knock, knock", or consciously move the penis. We also discussed the horror of a spider crawling inside one's anus or vagina. All of this over dinner!

Next I went to the Bus Stop for a few beers with joerandazzo, hook_and_eyelet, and their respective boyfriends. Ah, to be the 5th wheel! It was pleasant, but one thing of note DID occur:

I received a call from the lovely alicetiara, and so I stepped outside for a smoke and to take the call away from the bar noise. The Bus Stop is named for its location right by an actual bus stop, so I stepped out of the bar and leaned, facing away from the street, against a tree near the actual bus stop's sign. Mid conversation, a bus pulled up and its doors squealed opened. I heard the driver say something, so I just waved him on to indicate that I wasn't getting on the bus. He said something again, this time more loudly. I told Alice to hold on a second, and then asked the driver what he was saying. His reply:

"I stopped because you're standing at the bus stop! If you're just going to stand there, go up the street!"

He made a kind of angry grunt as he flipped the lever that closed the pneumatic doors with a hiss. I felt abused, debased, but also ashamed. I HAD been standing at the bus stop, after all. I'd just slowed down everyone's commute by several seconds. How could I sleep at night? Somehow I managed to.

p.s. Joe has already purchased tickets to the play, and Katie has indicated that she and her manfriend will be attending on opening night. When will YOU be coming to see the show? Hmm???
