Come On, Ride My Bus, And Ride It!

Come on, ride my bus! With my sister!

Come to the Bus Stop tonight to wish Matty yeswad, the lovable retarded one, a happy belated birthday, and to dance to the Spice Girls with alicetiara, the sophisticated but frigid one, once more before she returns to New York city! Not that I know what time they're planning to be there, but 9 or 10 is a safe bet!

Speaking of sophisticated and frigid: I love Catherine Keener! Last night we watched The 40 Year Old Virgin, as I had never seen it and Matt and Alice hadn't seen the unrated version.

The movie was very sweet and funny, and I love Catherine, and Steve Carrell is so somehow-sexy! Paul Rudd was looking a little haggard, but we decided that was an intentional character choice. It had to be!

A few things disturbed me, though.

1) Seeing Steve Carrell's chest spot with real blood in the chest-waxing scene, and then seeing the actress playing the wax technician have to touch it. BIOHAZARD!

2) Pandering to the Moral Majority? SPOILERS!
a) Catherine Keener's character flips out when she finds Steve Carrell's porn stash (not even really his; he's not a PERVERT!). Come on! While I have some female friends who say they'd have serious questions and hesitations about dating a guy who watches porn, I just don't understand that point of view. I think you have to accept that someone you're interested in might enjoy some things you don't, whether that be pineapple pizza, the comedy of Gallagher, or hardcore pornography.
b) I know the whole point of the movie is that the lead is a virgin, but then, when all is said and done, he only loses his virginity after he is legally wed. His relationship is pure and perfect, while his sexually active friends are all either miserable or trapped in dysfunctional relationships. One of his friend's relationship is only healed by the conception of a child. Is this a morality tale? OK, OK I don't really think that a movie with a tranny hooker character and a cameo by a porn star is a conservative Christian propaganda piece, it's just something I noticed.
