Updates

I figured I should write a life update so that I can record events of the last month.

Hill just finished up CAST, a drama camp. Eventhough he chose to attend the camp, he was pretty miserable during the entire month. It was so bad that his counselor had to talk to us since Hill ended up in the office upset on the day we were without power. Apparently, the introductory level of cast is a musical review, not a regular play. Hill felt he'd been cheated as there wasn't any "acting" and way too much singing, dancing and holding hands with girls. He was definitely the least enthusiastic person on stage. All the other parents are shocked whenever I say that Hill hates camp. Apparently their children all sobbed yesterday because it was the last day. We didn't attend the after-CAST party at the Brown Cow because 1. I didn't know it was at the Brown Cow, 2. the Baskin Robins was within walking distance of our house and 3. when asked, Hill said he'd rather be with us than the members of CAST. Despite all this, Hill is considering the next level of CAST where he can check the 'NO MUSICALS' box. It requires an audition with a monologue though, so it requires more commitment. We're still pondering this oxymoron (he hates CAST, but wants to go back).

Hill's attitude toward social events, socializing and interacting with others would make a lot more sense if he liked engineering or math or reading (but he doesn't), so I'm still wondering when the closet ax murderer is going to appear. Hill has grudgingly begun reading Gordan Korman and admits it isn't too bad. He hated Harry Potter. He hated Roald Dahl. He hated Percy Jackson. Finally, we decided that he didn't like fantasy and science fiction (of which we have a lot in our house). So, we culled all the fantasy and science fiction from his reading list and things are going better now.

The Wii has failed in our house. Hill has asked if we can get a PS3 when the PS2 finally dies. He wants to play roleplaying games on the PS3 and the Wii doesn't have any that he likes.

Danaan is still not fully potty trained, but was willing to use the Potty in order to get herself the DVD of the Princess and the Frog. Now she's working her way toward a Zoo-zoo (sp?) pet. I don't know what we did to deserved automated hamsters in our house. She's wanted one even before we started pet-sitting Bucky Nibbles (the class guinea pig) for the summer. The pet sitting has been a lot of fun for the kids, but I think I'm allergic to either Bucky or his hay.
