For our robotic sample mounter, we use a style of cryopucks known as ALS-style pucks. The only source of these pucks is Boyd Technologies. Yesterday, someone asked on the CCP4 mailing list if there was another source of ALS-style pucks because Boyd Technologies was no longer manufacturing them. All I could think was, why is Peter Boyd not making pucks anymore? He only sells one product. Today one of our technicians called Boyd Technologies and found out that Peter Boyd died five days ago. So, what happens now, does everyone switch to Uni-Pucks or is someone else take over? It would appear that Peter Boyd made pucks out of his garage by himself. So, there is no other source.
