Ooook, so maybe it's like three weeks late, but here's my A-kon report:
IT WAS AWESOME!
Kelly said it was her last con, because last year and this year all the panels she and her bf wanted to go to were poorly organized - glad she didn't go to Aggiecon or she'd know what a really fubar-ed con was!
But for me, I had a blast. Met soooo many people. And it seemed like every step I took I ran into someone I knew! There were a ton of really great costumes this year, and I mean GREAT costumes. There was a maid contest I really wanted to go to on Saturday that I ended up missing, but sounds like I wanted to anyway - half the contestants were men dressed as maids, half the girls were "dress + waist apron" wannabes and none of them did the job very well - in fact the guys did better. James and I hung out a lot and decided to play some D&D Saturday afternoon. The campaign primer made it sound like an evil campaign, but we started and came to find that in RPGA you can't BE evil - evil characters steal from and attack party members, so if you accumulate enough evil acts you turn evil and they take your character away from you. It was a NEUTRAL campaign, where you'd do very questionable acts that would make a good character shy away from them - and since it was an infiltration job, that would get you spotted and killed, so they said good characters wouldn't want to play. The guys we played with seemed rather bloodthirsty and fairly uncreative, so the campaign was a little bit of a letdown, but it was alright. Good to rp with James again.
Also met a friend from Final Fantasy XI at the con! Her name is Julie, and we hung out almost the entire time. She's a really cool chick, and she got along with James and his girlfriend really well! She was staying in Houston, but last week moved back up to Wyoming. She is trying to get into a university in Houston, so I'm hoping she does - more hanging out! I also met up with Ashley, local [well, Arlington] friend whom I also met on Final Fantasy XI. They met each other [we were all in the same Linkshell] and they seemed to get along, too. Ashley went out to dinner with James, Shaney, Julie and I Friday night, then stayed over on Friday.
This year was also by far the most.... alluring con I've been to. First of all, the amount of lovely bigger girls at this year's con was ASTOUNDING and I have a lot of really good pictures, and even more wonderful memories. People were very free and open this year too which is nice, because they were also respectful for the most part. I went out on a limb more than once and asked some girls if I could take "dirty" [aka, pose for me in your cleavage shirt] pictures and was obliged every time. There were two really tiny tiny [18+, cuz they went to Hentaifest] girls that were dressed VERY cute and sexy on Saturday night, and I got a lot of pictures of them. They found me later and got my email to get copies of the pics I took [they liked a lot of them, really good timing while they were playing around to the crowd], but they haven't contacted me so oh well. Julie and Shaney seemed to get along REALLY well and Saturday night they had the Wobble Wars, which I will not explain further but Shaney won [or maybe James and I did.... yeah I think we were the winners really].
Good friends, good times, good memories of it all. I spent a lot of money, almost none of it on me, but I had several friends' birthdays around that time so the con allowed me to take care of them all.
SPEAKING of birthdays, I turn a quarter century on Tuesday! I have to work, unfortunately, but honestly it's not that bad. I didn't ask for the day off because it's not like anyone I know would be having the day off and I finish work by 6, plenty early enough if anyone wanted me to go out and do anything. Might as well work. I'll be going to dinner with Ashley and my parents that evening, so that should be fun. I was hoping I'd get Wednesday off like I've been getting the past few weeks, but for some reason he didn't and gave me Friday off. That helps since I'm going to Houston this weekend, but still.... the free day in the middle of the week has been nice.
Alrighty well that sums up con, and I'm psyched about next year. Not sure what I'll do for cosplay but I definitely want to cosplay again next year. It was fun as-is this year but I definitely felt like I missed out on a lot of the experience by walking around in normal clothes. Gotta fix that. Gotta find a character!
Later all!
