Summary: Kevin has a bad dream which keeps him up all night.
A/N: I've been playing with the idea of making this a bit more graphic. (As in, show, don't tell).
Disclaimer: I own nothing.
Kevin woke with a start. He clenched the bottom sheet of the bed as he tried to catch his breath. Kevin looked next to him, but the bed was empty. He sure as hell wasn't about to fall back asleep alone. So he decided to grab a glass of wine, turn on all the lights on in the living room, and wait for his husband to return from work.
"Kevin, what are you doing still up? It's late," Scotty said, as he put his keys on the TV and locked the door behind him. "Why are all the lights on?"
"I had a nightmare."
Kevin could feel the blush rising in his cheeks at sounding like he was two.
"What was it?" Scotty asked, sitting next to Kevin on the couch.
He pulled Kevin into his arms, worried about what could be bothering his husband so much.
"Do you remember high school, and everyone was obsessed with everyone else's sexuality? And, if anyone suspected in the least that you were anything but straight, you were mercilessly teased and mocked?"
"Yeah."
"That was the start. Then every story I had ever heard or read about hate crimes on gays was reenacted. The victim was always you. And they all ended the same: me in the court room, and the judge ruling that exposure to your homosexuality had caused momentary insanity in the person, and therefore they were acquitted. I've been up all night trying to get the images out of my head. And I've been thinking about the time you came into my office looking for a lawyer. And how certain you looked I could prove your innocence when we were in the court room. And how you paid me back with dinner. And how bad I wanted to kiss you then. But I had vowed to myself to stay faithful to Jason. And you know why? Because I wanted to impress you. I wanted to prove to both of us that I could stay faithful. However, the only man I could ever seem to be able to stay faithful to was you."
Scotty leaned in to kiss his husband.
"That was worth staying up all night for," Kevin said.
