Lee was already awake and dressed when Lynn woke up. She saw him sitting at the kitchen table reading the newspaper.
“Have I ever told you that I love you?” Lee asked looking up from his paper.
“What?”
“Wow, I must not have if the words are that foreign to you.”
“No, I just don’t know where this is coming from.”
“I know I’m an unromantic guy, and you’ve never let on that it’s bothered you. But, I have a hunch that every woman wants to hear that she’s loved. Especially by the father of her to be baby. So, I love you Lynn.”
Lynn couldn’t help but smile. Despite how the words sounded, she knew that he truly meant it.
“I love you too Lee.”
“Have some Corn Pops,” Lee said, passing her the box as she sat across from him.
She poured the cereal, stopping when a plastic bag fell into the bowl. She picked it up, assuming it was just another plastic toy they put in cereals these days to make children eat them.
“What the. . .” she said when she realized inside the bag was what looked like a ring box.
She opened the bag and opened the box to find a diamond ring.
“I had a messed up family growing up. I don’t want that for our child. Marry me?”
“Lee, how did you. . .”
“Com’on, I have to get to work,” he said, standing up and putting his bowl in the sink.
“Yes. Yes, of course I will.”
Lee couldn’t help but smile. He quickly kissed Lynn and headed to work.
“Here,” Lee said, tossing some files on Allison’s desk.
“You did it this morning, didn’t you?”
“I don’t think my sex life is your business.”
“Not what I meant,” Allison said, swatting Lee in the arm. “I had a dream about you last night.”
“You’re married, do you really think that’s appropriate?” Lee asked with a smirk.
“Lee!” Allison said exasperated. “You’re going to make me ask, aren’t you?”
“Yup.”
“Did you propose to Lynn this morning?”
“Yes.”
“Don’t act so nonchalant about it! Congratulations!” Allison stood up to hug Lee.
“What are we celebrating?” Manny asked coming over to Allison’s desk.
“Lee and Lynn are engaged.”
“Way to go,” Manny said, patting Lee on the back.
“Com’on, don’t we have a crime to solve?” Lee asked.
