I worked in a video store for a bit while I was living in Ottawa...and I came to realize then that no matter how great a movie is, somebody hates it, and no matter how awful a movie is, not only does someone love it, it's their favourite movie of all time...and that that's all okay! It's like taste in food, taste in art, taste in music...giggle...there's a latin saying for 'no arguing taste' which I would sound very intelligent right now if I could quote it but unfortunately...well anyway, it came down to the fact that I myself stopped early on while I was working there saying whether a movie was good or bad...I would say if I liked it or didn't, and I would say why...and if someone asked about a film I would say something to the effect of, "If you like such and such, you'll like this movie." It ends up being about what speaks to somebody...there are people who like movies that tell a whole story and have an actual satisfying ending, and there are people who hate movies that have satisfying endings. There are people who love stories that stretch their imaginations, and there are people who (and I've heard them) will base their entire opinion of a movie on whether or not it's 'real', as in, 'could it actually happen in the walking-around world'.

Oh!
