i'm really pleased with the way this turned out. i found this new (to me) flickr group - unknown pleasures - which is where folks go to emulate album covers of the post-punk/new wave/alt. rock genre. (music that - back in the day - we mistakenly called punk, then alternative, which was fine before marketing prats grabbed onto it. now, people would mistakenly call the same music "goth", to which i have told githinks, "i'm more goth than that person, and my favorite band is Rush.") at any rate, i took this photo with the idea of submitting there, and i have, but i am generally pleased with the way it turned out anyway. this one again captures the sort of "did i really do this?" thought that makes me happy to have made it so.
at any rate, i'm not the only one happy with it, since i got a feature spot on the chicagoist site, for most of the afternoon anyway. githinks got posted on it first (again), mostly because i didn't realize it was on the page until so late in the afternoon, and then she posted while i laid down to try and recover from a major allergy attack (so bad i sneezed myself a back muscle spasm).
the picture was taken at the Illinois Beach State Park, in Lake County, IL near Zion. it was a cold, blustery afternoon, but i was still better off than the guy on the lake kite surfing. i don't get extreme sports.
so, pretty picture good, publishing good, allergies bad, chicago bears bad, kite surfing in mid-30 deg. F water crazy.
