Okay, Vancouver...

Jan 01, 2008 20:21

So, we got back no more than two hours ago. To Vancouver, I ask...

WHERE ARE THE TOILET SEAT COVERS?!

That, and why do you Vanouverites never look or feel as cold as I do walking down a street? Also, why such incredible food for so little money? And Roots, how are you that addictive?

We never went to Whistler, and we didn't celebrate New Year's in a big way. Brian felt sick, and I was content watching Men in Black II on television. But we did go club-hopping, and I had my first legal cosmopolitan. It was not good. Figures.

1. What did you do in 2007 that you'd never done before?
Accepted Berkeley's offer and moved the hell out of home. Consumed a lot of and formed a love for beer. Clubbed in a foreign country, went clubbing period. Got a semester 4.0 gpa for the first time in college. Finally reached a point in my relationship with Brian in which I am able to be happy.

2. Did you keep your 2007 New Year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I've never made a real resolution in my life. Fake ones annually include not dying and not contracting herpes, but those are usually a given.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
My cousin Jessica just gave birth to her baby boy, Andrew Logan, on December 8th. :D

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Thankfully, no.

5. What countries did you visit?
Canada.

6. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?
A balance. The second half of 2007, I was basically a slave to school...not just in actions, but also in mind. Mentally, I could think of nothing else and even if I did, the stress never left my body and mind. I'd like that to be different. More time with family would be wonderful, and I'd also like to have honed cooking skills and more money - but otherwise, I was pretty happy with 2007.

7. What date from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
April 30th was a big one; I found out from Berkeley that night. Otherwise, the regular stuff. Birthdays, anniversaries, holidays. The 23rd of November was a verrrrrry interesting day. It was my first time shopping at 4am on Black Friday. I went with Brian, and we were maniacs. For seven hours that morning, it felt like being on a game show with your best friend.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I'd say getting into Berkeley again, but that was really an achievement that was spread out for the past two years. For 2007, moving out and being on my own, and also enjoying it and never having trouble with it was also worthy of note. It came naturally for me to be on my own, and I honestly wouldn't mind living by myself for many, many years. Love. It.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Lack of balance. I could have been really happy if I'd only learned to give myself time for an outlet.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Just a few flus and colds.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
ALLLL of my beautiful furniture. But I love to travel, so I'll also say my roundtrip plane tickets to New York and Vancouver. (And all the shopping done in both respective places.)

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Not Britney Spears.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Britney Spears :(

14. Where did most of your money go?
Uh, JetBlue, Air Canada, Roots stores and various multiple shops in Manhattan. Oops.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Becoming a Cal Bear, duh.

16. What song will always remind you of 2007?
The entirety of The Reminder album, Feist.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. Happier or sadder? Happier, I think. I'm probably in one of the best situations of my life, so to be unhappy would be absurd.
ii. Thinner or fatter? FATTER. Oh, dear god, Vancouver, your food...
iii. Richer or poorer? Probably poorer, if not the same. Of course, if you'd asked me this a week ago...

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Listened to more new music, read more of my required reading, had more fun, gone out more...

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
STRESSING. And, eating. Using less butter and eating out less ftw.

20. How did you spend Christmas?
Eve was with the extended family and Brian, Day was spent sleeping for 12 1/2 hours, eating dinner and then staying over at Brian's to catch our 8am flight the next day.

21. What was the most embarrassing thing that happened to you in 2007?
Everyday, baby, is an embarrassing day for me.

22. Did you fall in love in 2007?
I fell in love with New York all over again.

23. How many one-night stands?
None so far in life.

24. What was your favorite TV program?
The Office, of course, but I've taken a liking to House.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Nah. I hate everyone I hated then the same amount.

26. What was the best book you read?
I hate to say this, but Gulliver's Travels. Required reading, but I couldn't put it down. I might have a thing for 17th/18th century literature. :/

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Feist/Broken Social Scene by far. I can't tell you how many times I played the Reminder in the month of July alone.

28. What did you want and get?
I wanted a new tiny camera and I got a kickass one from Brian for Christmas.

29. What did you want and not get?
Well, Italian lessons...

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Juno. Just saw it in Vancouver. It's cheeky, but excellent. I also became addicted to Knocked Up. I don't know what it is about that movie, but I can watch it over and over again, on loop. It's frightening.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I spent that entire week surrounding my birthday in San Luis Obispo with Milena, and that day I went lingerie shopping, shopping in general, and we ate penis pasta for dinner. With white sauce. And I had me some liquor. I turned 20, and all I can remember is that it was a very good day.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
If Brian lived down the street. I'm almost convinced we would have spend every waking moment together.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?
Sweatshirt and jeans with boots or Pumas. Same concept I've had for years. But I've incorporated some more color and uncomfortable clothing into my wardrobe...which is great.

34. What kept you sane?
My DVD player. And sleep, sourdough toast and my own scrambled eggs.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Probably my girlcrush, Natalie Portman. Mmm.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Umm, every single one of them. I GO TO BERKELEY. :/

37. Who did you miss?
Ol' mom and dad.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
My roommate, Stephanie. We're the same person, except cooler than each other in different ways.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2007.
All you'll ever need in a fridge is eggs, juice, butter and milk. Nothing else matters.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
"I feel it all."
