It never ceases to amaze me what people will get their drawers in a wad about...
http://www.constantchatter.com/forum/showthread.php?t=29515&page=2 It amazes me that people spend so much energy getting tweaked about something like what people choose to name their children. This poster even argues that names choices are the spiraling downfall of the educated society as we know it (ok - my interpretation of her post...might be a bit of a stretch!) :P Seriously - get over it! Then, get a few kids, so you don't have time to waste your energy fussing about other people.
Mostly, I love the arguments that names should be spelled phonetically, made by the same people who are arguing against uncommon spellings for common names. Sorry, but anyone who knows a little about phonics knows that Amy/Amiee/Aimee are actually all phonetically correct (or pretty darn close). The English language is the most rediculous language in the world, in terms of rules, so its pretty tough to argue the spelling card! :P (Coming from a special ed teacher who's been trying to teach grammar to 6th graders for the past 6 months!)
*I need to just quit reading the thread - its mostly annoying!*
According to this WISE poster's criteria,
I have a far simpler process. I ask if the name fits better with "Supreme Court Justice" and/or "Doctor", or if it works better in the sentence "Appearing on the main stage at Larry Flint's Hustler Club, it's ___________"I guess I should start preparing Tallia for a life as a stripper, and Abigail for a life of insanely high college debt! :P
