Had my review at work on Friday. Another raving review saying how wonderful I am. My response was, if I'm so wonderful, why haven't I gotten a promotion yet? (they didn't give me a promotion 6 months ago because the money amount of a raise they gave me was too big for me to get a title change). Anyway, 6 mths ago my boss said he was going to work on having the promotion coming in about 6 months, and probably another raise (I'm getting another raise in a month or so). So anyway, I've accepted a role which would handle all incoming and outgoing data transfers to and from our clients (merck and the like). I've been told that once I'm settled in there and have started some development that it's possible some people would hire on under me to handle the workload, as transfers get shifted to my new group. I suppose it's possible I'll be the lead of that group, and that's fine with me. It's an easy enough job, just difficult enough to maintain my interest.

I've decided to pick up something on the side as well. It's my intention to learn c++ over the next 6 months or so, as well as OpenGL, DirectX, and some Directinput/networking. The goal of this? I want to make a game or two on the side. I guess it's the dream of every programmer that he or she will get to program a game one day. I feel I've reached the level that I feel confident in my skills that I can accomplish this dream, given the time to learn the details outside my job that puts bread on the table. The way I see it, it will be a great way to get together with my friends (who I plan on involving in all this) and if some day we earn a little green on the side, that would be spiffy too :)
