Spectremeat2002: So I was looking around, and decided to Google the word "dieselpunk", for no real reason.
Spectremeat2002:
This seems to be the best they can do. Pope: that sounds like your sort of thing
Spectremeat2002: Children of the Sun. Hm.
Spectremeat2002: Nah, I'm pretty sure Grey still kicks its ass. :P
Pope: heh
Pope: I was thinking "Winnabegopunk" for Grey
Pope: ;)
Spectremeat2002: It's pretty bad when our li'l book defines the genre better than those who invented it.
Pope: eh
Pope: diselpunk is basically steampunk only with high tech and lower setting
Spectremeat2002: I think Grey has a lot to do with the diesel, but only because it's gritty and filthy, and loud.
Pope: heh
Spectremeat2002: I like to throw around the word "scrufftech" too, when talking about Grey.
Pope: heh
Spectremeat2002: But that's not really fair.
Spectremeat2002: You can have the hairy, fat 40-something geek whose sentient computer is made of old Atari-2600's, but you could just as easily have the slick, smooth business suit, with a briefcase full of spygear. It's all a matter of character.
Pope: the first seems cooler to me
Spectremeat2002: Me too.
Spectremeat2002: But we needed to include both sides of things: city and country -- Tommyknockers and Minority Report.
Spectremeat2002: But the book definitely focuses more on the scruff.
Spectremeat2002: I believe my argument was, "either we set it in the country, or I want my flying car, goddammit".
