The other night my friend Gina introduced me to Pomplamoose, and now I am addicted so I must share the love with you.
Pomplamoose-which means "grapefruit" in French-is Nataly Dawn and Jack Conte, who just happen to be up in Corte Madera in Marin. They're like She and Him meets the Submarines: a girl with a rich, jazzy voice dating a musically diverse guy with indie pop sensibilities. They have become YouTube sensations because of their VideoSongs, a new Medium with two rules:
1. What you see is what you hear (no lip-syncing for instruments or voice).
2. If you hear it, at some point you see it (no hidden sounds).

You may notice that they are both totally adorable. They're clearly very talented, but they have a lot of fun with their videos. Follow me behind the cut for more!
"If You Think You Need Some Lovin" is great, but "Beat the Horse" is even catchier and far more upbeat.

I love the clips of the dorky handclaps. And the random chicken dance. And the way Nataly bobs from side to side while doing the backup vocals in the chorus.

How can you not love a song that includes clips from His Girl Friday?

And here is one of their most popular covers. In which Nataly wears a Batman shirt, making her even more desirable. Also, the bridge is hilarious.
You can listen to many songs on their
MySpace, and you can also buy them! And, you guys, I, music pirate extraordinaire, did indeed pay money for all the songs they had since they are independent, unsigned artists and intend to stay that way. I encourage you to do the same! The covers are all free downloads, though. But I highly recommend "If You Think You Need Some Lovin" and "Beat the Horse." And "Expiration Date." And "Centrifuge." And "Twice as Nice." And "Hail Mary."
Listen! Love! Buy!
